The silence in the 1-A dorm living room was almost deafening after the hustle and bustle of the day. Everyone had long since gone to their rooms, but Izuku couldn't bring himself to go upstairs. He sat on the couch with a notepad in his lap, pretending to take notes on today's practice.
In fact, the page was blank.
A few steps away, Katsuki stood leaning against the kitchen counter. He drank water from a sports bottle, casting sullen glances out the window. In the dim light of the bedside lamp, his usually aggressive features seemed unexpectedly soft, and his tousled ash-blond hair looked almost golden.
Izuku squeezed the pencil so hard that it almost broke in half.
"Why am I looking at him?" a panicked thought flashed through his mind.
He used to study Kacchan to become stronger. To catch up. To protect. But now... Now his gaze lingered on Bakugou's collarbones, visible beneath his stretched T-shirt, the heaving of his chest, his lips...
Izuku's heart skipped a beat, then began pounding somewhere in his throat. Heat washed over him from the tips of his ears to his toes.
"Oh my god... This isn't admiration. I... I'm in love with him?"
The realization hit like a lightning bolt. All those years, that whole gamut of complex emotions, the uncontrollable urge to be close—it all came together to form a single, frightening, and incredibly clear picture.
Katsuki suddenly turned his head sharply, feeling someone staring at him, and fixed his eyes on Midoriya with his usual irritation.
"Hey, Deku! What are you staring at?! Did you lose your mind during training?" he growled, taking a step toward the sofa.
Izuku blushed deeply, blushing to the roots of his hair, and frantically tried to hide his face behind his notebook, completely at a loss as to how to behave with the man he had just fallen head over heels in love with.
