present time
They then returned to Vingalet, where she told Citlali the reason for her sleep problems near the Opera House and explained that they represented a collection of lost, torn souls. Since she planned to return to Fatui, she decided not to call on Nevilette for help and decided to ask Citlali to track down the monster so they could give it peace.
present time
To this end, she rented the Wingalet from the Vriotsli under the guise of a fishing license and hired Citlali as an administrator to distract the authorities. Meanwhile, she took advantage of the opportunity to wander around Fontaine Courtyard disguised as an anonymous person when the Fontinalia Festival began. She noticed Columbine arriving in town, but managed to hide and slip away.
The Traveler, whom Xavier had brought to Vingalet, met with the "captain," but was shocked to learn that the captain was none other than Sandrone herself. After confirming her safety, they asked why she hadn't told the others. Sandrone explained that she had anomalies and wanted to deal with them before they caused more problems. She then called Citlali and informed her of her status. Citlali was shocked to learn that she was a Fatui Harbinger, but accepted that Sandrone wasn't as bad as she thought, given that Capitano had sacrificed himself for Natlan's safety, and agreed to continue working for her. She then invited the Traveler to join her for a swim near the Elton Trench to gather information and catch some "fish" for the aquarium before Sandrone left to gather more data.
Since filming took place on a ship, Sandrone had to hide from Columbine, who couldn't help but sense her familiar presence but couldn't pinpoint its source. She took the Traveler to her home, a cave that Alain had equipped with a giant floodgate to prevent it from being flooded by the rising waters of the future. There, they found more notes, and Sandrone understood the cause of her "anomalies"—the internal contradiction between her logical thinking and her emotional essence. She eventually came to terms with this and accepted that emotional pain was a part of life that she had ignored for so long.
present time
The deception succeeded, and Columbine was able to return to Teyvat. She destroyed Dottore, avenging her own death, and then hurried to her lifeless body to mourn. According to her verbal will, drawn up many years ago, Harlequin sent the bodies of Columbine and Pulonia to the Fontaine Research Institute to salvage their cores. Harlequin took with him several mementos, which she had bequeathed to be kept in the Hearth House, and sent one book to the Traveler, although Sandrone specifically asked him not to inform Columbine of this, though Harlequin wouldn't guess why. Furthermore, some of her acquaintances in Fontaine needed to settle some matters. At some point after her body was sent to Fontaine, she inexplicably regained consciousness, though she had no idea what had happened and initially feared they had failed and she was being held in one of Dottore's labs. However, noticing Fontaine architecture around her, she decided to test whether her formula had worked. Because she was severely damaged, she had to shut down most of her functions to process the equation, and to her delight, she discovered that it had been successful. She then checked Pulonia's condition and discovered that he had suffered far more damage than she had, and the damage was beyond repair. Sandrone also noticed a Star Linchpin waiting for her at a nearby table, and eventually concluded that she had been able to reactivate thanks to a hidden failsafe mechanism Alain had implanted in her without her or the Star Linchpin's knowledge. Alain's backup also contained a secret message stating that he had left something for her at his house. She used some parts from Pulonia to repair herself and created a new assistant named Faggio, who would work alongside the lynchpin. Although she wanted everyone to know she was fine, she decided to hold off on that for now to address several anomalies that were troubling her.
present time
Following this incident, Sandrone modified Pulonia to better combat the Wild Hunt and intervened in the fight between Rerir, Fleance, and the Traveler. Pulonia's upgrades proved insufficient to combat Rerir (even though he was ten times weaker), but before the fight could continue, Columbine teleported them to the Silvermoon Hall. Sandrone scolds Columbine for interrupting their fight, but Columbine replies that her recent calculations were greatly off. She then reminds her that Fatui still has a warrant for her arrest, but decides not to argue and leaves with Pulonia.
When Columbine arrived at the base, Sandrone wasn't happy to see her. Columbine asked her to help her meet with Harlequin, to which Sandrone reluctantly agreed, but then the Wild Hunt burst into the base, searching for the former Harbinger. Noticing Rerir, she set Pulonia on him, but he had no intention of fighting her and easily incapacitated Pulonia in seconds. Harlequin later received her message and, while she went to see Columbine, sent Laini, Lynette, and Fremine to assist her at the Bureau. Sandrone asked Fremine to help repair the damaged Land Cruisers, and Laini to keep her sister away from them, as one of the Land Cruisers that Lynette touched had fallen to pieces.
After Rerir's defeat, Harlequin met with Sandrone at the bureau and asked about the Doctor. Sandrone claimed he was incapable of interacting with people, but added that he hadn't bothered her, leading them to suspect he was plotting something. Sandrone later discovered the Doctor disapproved of her actions and was horrified to learn he was turning her subordinates into monsters. She agreed to help the Traveler stop him and, with the help of Albedo and the Traveler, created a formula that would restore Columbine. The formula was only partially completed, as its completion required Varka, Nicole, and Harlequin to return the moon to Earth.
present time
At some point, Sandrone created an artificial Fatuus Velimira and sent him along with a special forces team to Natlan to learn more about the Arcane Source. She gave him a copy of the Arcane Source's core, which allowed them to suppress the resistance of the original administrators, and warned that the Traveler's capabilities made him a potential threat to the operation. During the Archon Quest, Song of the Welkin Moon: Prelude - "The Path Home," the special forces team ultimately fell into the hands of Ix Rak'lapuj Chue'k Buluk, Eleventh of the Thirteen Lords, and the mission failed. Despite his frustration, Sandrone simply dismissed the undertaking as a side project.
Sandrone first appears in the game in Nod Land to oversee the construction of the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau and enforce the "Palestar Edict" following Columbine's escape—though she wasn't eager to bring her back, as they were colleagues. Upon learning of the Traveler's arrival in Nod Land, Sandrone decides to take matters into her own hands and personally meets with the "variable" at the Adventurer's Guild in Our City. She warns them not to interfere with Fatui affairs in Nod Land and then receives the Lunar Marrow from Vilemina. As she prepares to use it, an alarm in the building is triggered, and she orders her subordinates to prepare a trap for them. She then confronts the Traveler, Lauma, and Jahoda, but her trap fails as her subordinates are attacked by the Wild Hunt. After the battle, she is in a bad mood and returns the Moon Marrow to them before leaving.
present time
At some point, Sandrone, for unknown reasons, scolded Javert.
Sandrone became interested in the work of Mosso Lombroso and his creation, "The Curve." To obtain the Curve and Mosso's research notes on its creation, she contacted Bauland and Jenk. Jenk retained the research notes, but his attempt to cover up his crimes by killing the Traveler, Paimon, and Talohard only resulted in the destruction of the Curve. An enraged Sandrone shattered Jenk's mind, cut out his tongue, and replaced it with a note apologizing to the three survivors, then left him bound within the Epiclesis. Euphrasie speculates that Jenk's patron left the apology either because he did not want to make enemies of the three or because he regretted the destruction of the Curve.
Sandrone's subordinates managed to recover Kriva's core, but during transport to Nod's End, it was stolen by the Fruit Order, who hid it in one of Aino's robots before escaping to an unknown location. The damaged core was reborn as a new personality, based on Talohard, and given the name Chard Lombro.
past
Alain only tells the Marionette that she needs to make a wish exclusively for herself, and then she will be able to receive his “last gift”, about which nothing is known yet.
Before his death, Alain asked Marionette to destroy all of his manuscripts to prevent them from being stolen. Marionette agreed, though she read them all beforehand, as she did not want his work to be lost.[15] He also requested that Pulonia be taken to the Fontaine Research Institute, but Marionette decided that no one could care for her as well as she could and took her with her, upgrading her performance. She also modified Pulonia for combat, but did so carefully so as not to disrupt its basic functions. Puppet eventually arrived in Snezhnaya for her new "job" with the Queen and eventually became the Seventh Harbinger of Fatui, codenamed Sandrone and Puppet. Her duties were unknown, though she frequently encountered Columbine, Harlequin, and Signora, finding the first two "annoying," though she tolerated most of her colleagues except the Doctor.
Shortly before the events described in the novel, Sandrone attended a performance of "The Mountain Sparrow" by the Royal Company, featuring the Signora, Columbine, the Doctor, and Pantalone. She later lamented how awful it was to sit next to the latter two. Soon after, Sandrone dreamed of Alain's funeral, which greatly dampened her spirits. Immediately afterward, all the Harbingers, including Sandrone, attended a meeting where Pierrot outlined the Queen's plan to capture all the Dwarves. Sandrone was tasked with resolving any "technical issues" her colleagues might have. After the meeting, Columbine, Harlequin, and La Signora held tea in Sandrone's bedroom to console her—she was clearly devastated by Alain's death.
At some point after Scaramuccia gained Electro Gnosis and severed his connection with the Fatui, Sandrone and the other Harbingers attended Rosalina's funeral.
Sandrone is also the creator of Katherine.
past
Guillotin the Marionette was personally created by Alain Guillotin and first activated on his 65th birthday, in the image and likeness of his late sister, Mary-Anne. She was his special creation, possessing an emotional module that allowed her to learn and process feelings. Marionette's creation was a futile (and naive, as he soon realized) attempt to bring Mary-Anne back. Moreover, her very name was meant to remind him of his sister. However, after she attempted to pronounce their names upon her first activation, he immediately regretted his intention to place Mary-Anne's legacy on the Marionette's shoulders. She was a new, nascent life and deserved her own life and identity, just like any other person. From that moment on, Alain resolved to teach Marionette not only life skills and an education, but also to help her become an independent individual, choosing her own birthday and name. Although she later told him that she was completely happy with his choice, his own reflections on why he chose this name for her and what it meant led to him never calling her Marionette out loud again.
Alain often gave Marionette notebooks, most of which she threw away after a few entries. Eventually, she decided not to throw one away and began learning how to take notes. Over time, Marionette's learning abilities exceeded his expectations, and he gave her a new creation—Pulonia, which was supposed to calculate the unknown, though he admitted he didn't know what that "unknown" was. Pulonia helped Marionette perform basic tasks.
At one point, when Alain was starting to feel increasingly unwell due to his age, the Puppet criticized his desire to save the world, implying that dying "just to fulfill someone's wish" was not worth it, and that it was "completely ridiculous."
character
According to Tartaglia and the Traveler, Sandrone is always immersed in her automaton research and has a "terrible temper," though Columbine speaks more positively of her, considering her one of the few people who treated her well during her time in Fatui and finding Sandrone's outbursts amusing rather than repulsive. After interacting with the Traveler and Columbine, Sandrone became more caring for her friends, which Dottore noted was unusual for her. Apparently, she was more caring and considerate, at least when Alain was alive. By embracing her emotional side, Sandrone became more honest with herself.
She doesn't like to lose and often comes up with a lot of backup plans in case of failure.
Sandrone is remarkably human-like: her body bleeds, and she senses touch, taste, and smell. She not only measures the temperature of her surroundings, but also feels it. She doesn't actually need food, but she enjoys the process, preferring dishes from her native Fontaine. She also loves to sleep, though the winding key in her back forces her to lie face down for comfort.
description
Sandrone, also known as "The Puppet" and by her personal name, Marionette Guillotin, is the Seventh of the Eleven Harbingers of Fatui and the leader of the Adventurer's Guild. She is a Fontainean puppet and researcher, as well as the creator of Catherine. She is assisted by Faggio, her latest creation.
She was created approximately 450 years ago by Alain Guillotin in the image of his deceased sister, Marie-Anne Guillotin, and after Alain's death, she became the constant companion of Pulonia, his final creation. She was recently sent to Nod's End to oversee the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau, but later died in a fight with the Doctor after he harnessed the powers of the Three Moons. Following the battle, her core was preserved and sent to the Fontaine Research Institute, where she was later resurrected thanks to the awakening of the Star Bearing. Following the destruction of Pulonia, she created Faggio to be her new companion. Following her public return during the Fontinalia Festival, she returned to her duties in Snowy as the Harbinger of Fatui.
facts
The Harbinger is named after the commedia dell'arte mask character Sandrone, who portrays a humble, resourceful, but rather rude peasant. This mask is notable for its rarity (it was used only by theatrical troupes in Modena) and its unusual early implementation—originally, the character's role was played not by an actor, but by a puppet.
Sandrone's appearance, despite her color scheme, bears a striking resemblance to Caterina, a bionic doll from Snezhnaya who serves as the secretary for all branches of the Adventurer's Guild. Given Sandrone's keen interest in automatons, it's highly likely that the Caterinas are Sandrone's creations, based on her own appearance.
combat information
Sandrone is a Cryo attacker who allows party members to inflict the Star Conductor reaction and directly deals damage to that reaction with her skills.
story
Sandrone was first mentioned in the description of Tartaglia's teaser trailer, where it was said that the harbinger once taught a certain "single lesson" to the then-rookie agent Fatui Javert.
Like most of the other Harbingers, Sandrone attended Signora's funeral, where she was in the "company" of a robot resembling the Guardian of the Ruins.
appearance
Sandrone is a young, pale-skinned woman of average height, with beige hair similar to the traveler's hairstyle: a medium-length bob with two long strands framing her face, and gray-blue eyes.
Her outfit consists of a long white dress with red frills. It features a black corset adorned with a triquetra symbol in the center and ruby-red gemstones between them. The dress has short, dark, puffy sleeves, with long white sleeves peeking out from underneath. She wears white gloves that form a V-shape at the wrist. She also wears white stockings and black high-heeled shoes.
On her head, she wears a white, black, and gold hat with red lacing and black bows on the sides. Around her neck, she wears a black collar trimmed with gold. In the center, there is a pear-shaped ruby-red gemstone.
capabilities
Sandrone is known to be interested in unknown machines, devoting herself entirely to their research and development, often ignoring anything unrelated. Although Scaramuccia considers her research results to be rubbish, there is currently no data to support this claim.
personality
Sandrone's character is sparsely explored. It's known that she values her machine research above all else. Tartaglia notes a peculiarity in her personality—the Harbinger looked at a colleague as if she wanted to kill him, even though Tartaglia himself had done nothing to her and had only seen her a few times. Scaramuccia, however, describes her character as terrible, fixated solely on her research.
Alain Guillaumin would have called her "Marionette." Behind the name lay the story of a beloved woman he couldn't forget, whose memories he naively tried to rekindle by creating her image. But the moment she opened her eyes and hesitantly uttered his name, he resolved never to call her that again. He realized it was wrong to force this fragile creature to bear the burden of his sister's life and his own mistake. This fragile creature deserved her own life, just like any other human being born into this world.
But from time to time he still addressed her by that name, even if only in his thoughts. He did this because, as the name Marionette suggested, she was pure-hearted, kind, and always full of joy.
The people of Snezhnaya knew her as "the Mistress" or "Mistress Puppet." Most spoke of her with the awe typically instilled by Harbingers, but their voices often carried a distinct note of respect, as evidenced by descriptions such as "the determined Mistress Puppet" and "the ever-reliable Mistress Puppet."
But to her friends and colleagues, she was Sandrone. Initially, it was simply a code name, but over time, it evolved into a cheerful way to address her among those closest and dearest to her. It became associated with the aromas of desserts and afternoon tea, the elegant turning of a book's pages and the steady ticking of a spring... And, of course, sometimes it evoked grumbling and even outbursts of anger from a lady who had lost all patience, disregarding the rules of etiquette.
One day a friend asked her a question: “What do you want us to call you?”
"It doesn't matter, and I don't care," she replied calmly. "I've always believed that names exist primarily for the convenience of others. What others call me depends largely on what part of me they're willing to accept."
