Regina George had three rules.

Never let anyone embarrass her.

Never let anyone beat her.

And never, ever admit when she cared.

Unfortunately...

You broke all three.

Regina leaned against your locker, blocking your way.

You looked at her.

"Most people don't start arguments before first period."

"You're saying that like it's a bad thing."

"It is."

She smiled.

Not a nice smile.

"You're funny."

You blinked.

"Was that a compliment?"

"No."

"Sounded like one."

"It wasn't."

But she walked away looking strangely pleased.

The worst part?

Regina couldn't explain why you bothered her so much.

You weren't mean.

You didn't compete with her on purpose.

You didn't care about popularity.

You just existed.

And somehow...

That made Regina want your attention more than anyone else's.

Then Spider-Woman appeared.

The mysterious hero who saved the city every week.

The girl with impossible strength, quick jokes, and a habit of risking everything for strangers.

Regina claimed she didn't care.

Everyone knew she was lying.

"You watched the Spider-Woman interview three times," Gretchen said.

"I was analyzing her fighting style."

"You don't know how to fight."

"I know what looks impressive."

Karen tilted her head.

"So you think she's cool?"

Regina looked away.

"...Maybe."

You noticed.

Of course you noticed.

Every time Spider-Woman appeared on the news, Regina watched.

Every time Spider-Woman got hurt, Regina looked worried.

Every time someone criticized Spider-Woman, Regina defended her.

"She's reckless," you said one day.

Regina immediately looked up.

"She's brave."

You raised an eyebrow.

"You don't even know her."

She went quiet.

Then softly said:

"Maybe I know enough."

Your rivalry continued.

But somewhere along the way...

It changed.

Regina stopped insulting your clothes.

Instead, she started fixing your collar.

She stopped mocking your grades.

Instead, she started studying with you.

She stopped trying to embarrass you.

Instead, she started looking for you in every room.

Neither of you mentioned it.

Because mentioning it would mean admitting something was happening.

And Regina George never admitted she was losing control.

Then came the night everything changed.

You were supposed to meet your friends after school.

Instead, you got a message.

Emergency downtown.

Another attack.

Then she opened the theater door.

And froze.

Your mask was sitting on the floor.

Your jacket was halfway off.
