When two people cross paths, destined souls recognize each other, engraving somewhere on someone's body the name of their eternal companion, a mark to prove to soulmates. These can appear when you're young, depending on how early you find your soulmate; sometimes these are even extraordinary matches.

Five years later, Ant-Man escaped from the Quantum Realm and provided the Avengers with a chance to time travel, so the Avengers assembled once more. With Ant-Man officially joining the roster, the Avengers initiated a Time Heist, where they traveled to alternate timelines and collected the six Infinity Stones. Returning to their timeline with the Stones, at the cost of Black Widow's life, Banner donned the Nano Gauntlet and was able to resurrect those who died in the Snap. However, an alternate Thanos and his army had followed them, sparking the immense Battle of Earth, where Iron Man gave his life to defeat Thanos and his army. With the battle won and the remaining members going their separate ways, the Avengers effectively disbanded.

In 2027, Sam Wilson, as the new Captain America, revived the Avengers and recruited Joaquín Torres, the new Falcon, onto the team. Wilson, who filed to own the copyright for the team, sued the New Avengers on behalf of the Avengers.

Two years after the Accords were ratified, Thanos launched a crusade against the universe in his quest to gather the Infinity Stones. The Avengers were split up into different groups as they fought to combat Thanos before he succeeded, joining forces with the Masters of the Mystic Arts, the Wakandans, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Iron Man and Spider-Man went to Titan alongside Doctor Strange, where they allied with Star-Lord, Nebula, Mantis, and Drax to try to stop Thanos, while Captain America, Banner, Black Widow, War Machine, Falcon, Thor, Groot, Rocket, and Maximoff protected Vision from the Black Order in Wakanda. The team on Wakanda was successful in killing Thanos' minions, but the team on Titan was defeated. Thanos arrived and overpowered the heroes on Wakanda with ease before killing Vision to acquire the Mind Stone, thus completing the Infinity Gauntlet, and eradicating half of the universe's population. Among the victims were Falcon, Maximoff, and Spider-Man; with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Banner, Black Widow, and War Machine being the only Avengers to survive the war. Despite them managing to kill Thanos, the victory was empty, as the Infinity Stones were destroyed, ensuring no chances of undoing the Snap. This resulted in Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor retiring from the team. Black Widow then became the team's new leader, commanding War Machine as well as new members Rocket, Nebula, Captain Marvel, and Okoye, as they strove to maintain order on Earth and the wider universe.

Under Captain America's leadership, the team completed several operations around the world with success, until the amount of collateral damage during their conflicts caused the United Nations to pass the Sokovia Accords in an attempt to regulate their actions, turning the team from a private organization to one which was under the control of a governmental body. The differences in opinions created a rift within the team which split the Avengers into two factions, one led by Iron Man and the other by Captain America. After Captain America was able to stop Helmut Zemo, the instigator of their fight, the team was divided; Iron Man, Vision and War Machine remained official members, while a small group consisting of Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon continued to operate in the shadows. Stark would try to boost the Avengers' membership by inviting Spider-Man to join, but the young hero turned down the offer to remain closer to the people he had sworn to protect.

The Avengers are a team of extraordinary individuals who possess either superpowers or other special characteristics. Though primarily affiliated with the interests of the United States, the group's purpose was to protect global stability from inner or extraterrestrial threats. The Avengers were assembled in 2012 by S.H.I.E.L.D. as a result of the Avengers Initiative, when Loki invaded Earth with his Chitauri army. The first iteration of the team, consisting of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, defeated Loki in the Battle of New York to stop the Chitauri Invasion.

When S.H.I.E.L.D. became a defunct agency due to the Hydra infiltration, the team was no longer an American governmental division, therefore becoming an independent and private organization. Stark Industries remodeled Stark Tower into Avengers Tower and the team joined in the fight against Hydra. After their victory, Stark built Ultron, hoping that the AI would be able to defend the world from any threats necessary in place of the Avengers. The plan backfired and Ultron started a war against humanity, forcing the Avengers to fight him. When Ultron was defeated, Hulk, Barton, Thor and Stark left the team, so Wanda Maximoff, Vision, War Machine, and Falcon were recruited, and they were relocated to the Avengers Compound.

Soon, Stark was recruited by Stephen Strange and Bruce Banner to defend Earth from Thanos 's attack . As a result, Stark and Peter Parker boarded the Q-Ship to rescue Strange, who had been captured by Ebony Maw , and landed on Titan , where, along with the Guardians of the Galaxy , they confronted Thanos. However, each was defeated, losing the Time Stone . After Thanos snapped his fingers to gather the Infinity Stones and wipe out half of all life in the universe, Stark and Nebula were the only survivors on Titan. The two boarded the Benatar and were helped by Carol Danvers to return to Earth . Although the surviving Avengers managed to defeat Thanos, Stark retired, married Virginia Potts , and had a daughter, Morgan Stark .

In 2023, Stark was convinced to help the Avengers travel through time via the Quantum Realm to retrieve the Infinity Stones from the past. Stark returned Rogers ' shield , and they retrieved both the Mind Stone and the Space Stone in 2012 and 1970, respectively, with the latter journey allowing him to briefly reunite with his father, Howard Stark . With the Stones reunited, Stark witnessed Bruce Banner revive half of all life in the universe. Afterward, he and the Avengers were confronted by the army of an alternate Thanos in the Battle of Earth ; however, Stark chose to use the power of the Stones to eliminate Thanos and his forces, sacrificing his own life in the process. He saved the entire universe from destruction, leaving a legacy as one of Earth's most revered superheroes.

However, Stark soon reunited with the Avengers to dismantle the growing threat of HYDRA , led by Wolfgang von Strucker . Although they won, Stark and Bruce Banner decided to create Ultron to ensure the world's protection. However, the artificial intelligence rejected the idea and instead chose to destroy humanity. Once again, Stark was confronted by Steve Rogers and the team for not informing them of his creation initially. As they were outnumbered, Stark helped create Vision , who ultimately destroyed Ultron. Later, Stark decided to leave the team, feeling guilty about the chaos caused by the artificial intelligence he had created.

Later, Stark met with Thaddeus Ross and they created the Sokovia Accords to regulate the Avengers ' actions . However, Stark's strong support for the documents put him at odds with Steven Rogers , who proceeded to protect James Barnes from arrest. Stark then launched a manhunt for his former ally, igniting the Avengers Civil War . During a truce to apprehend Helmut Zemo , Stark discovered that Barnes had murdered his parents, resulting in a fight which Rogers won, dropping his shield before the two went their separate ways. Leading the few remaining Avengers, Stark returned to New York and mentored Peter Parker , helping him become a better hero than he had ever been.

With the world once again under threat, Stark reluctantly joined the Avengers to help defeat Loki , developing a friendship with Bruce Banner and clashing with Steve Rogers over their ideals of heroism. Despite his initial mistrust, Stark learned to work as part of a team, ultimately defeating Loki and the Chitauri army by destroying the Chitauri Command Center in space. However, the Battle of New York left Stark with post-traumatic stress disorder, leading him to create the Iron Legion in an attempt to protect the world.

Later, the Mandarin 's threats forced Stark to protect the United States , putting his loved ones at risk and leaving him defenseless when his mansion was destroyed. Briefly aided by Harley Keener , Stark discovered that Aldrich Killian was behind the attacks and that Trevor Slattery was a Mandarin impersonator, a cover for his experiments using Extremis . Ultimately, Stark and James Rhodes thwarted their plans, though Stark nearly lost Potts in the process. In the aftermath of the battle, he destroyed all his Iron Legion armor using the Clean Slate Protocol and took a break from his superhero duties.

Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark was a billionaire industrialist, former CEO of Stark Industries , and a founding member of the Avengers . The son of Howard Stark and possessing a brilliant intellect, Stark became a world-renowned weapons inventor until he was kidnapped by the Ten Rings . In captivity, he designed an armored suit to escape the organization, returning home and becoming the superhero known as Iron Man , battling terrorists and his former business partner, Obadiah Stane . Stark enjoyed the fame that came with his new secret identity and decided to share it with the world, publicly announcing that he was Iron Man.
After some time, following the opening of the Stark Expo , Stark found himself dying because his Arc Reactor was poisoning his body, and he was confronted by the vengeful terrorist, Ivan Vanko . Stark appointed Virginia Potts as the new CEO of Stark Industries and decided to ignore his troubles to enjoy what appeared to be his last days. However, Nicholas Fury approached him with an old trunk belonging to Howard Stark , where he found what he needed to develop a new element , which cured him of his poisoning . Now recovered, Stark defeated Vanko with the help of James Rhodes , began a romantic relationship with Potts, and accepted a position as a consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D.
