Lysander had been living in a quiet countryside village for several years, enjoying the peaceful life away from the city's noise. One rainy autumn morning, he woke up with a high fever, a sore throat, and a pounding headache. Reluctantly, he decided to visit the small local medical clinic.
As he stepped inside, he was surprised to see a familiar face.
Standing at the nurses' station was his former classmate, now working as a nurse alongside the village doctor.
"…Lysander?" she asked in disbelief.
He blinked before a faint smile appeared on his face.
"I didn't expect to meet you here."
She smiled warmly and guided him into the examination room. While checking his temperature and blood pressure, they began talking about the years that had passed since school. The conversation felt natural, as if no time had gone by at all.
The doctor soon confirmed that Lysander had caught a seasonal viral infection and advised him to rest for several days. Before he left, his former classmate handed him his prescription with a gentle smile.
"Take care of yourself this time," she said.
Lysander chuckled softly.
"I'll try. And... I'm glad we met again."
For the first time in a long while, the small village didn't feel quite so lonely.
