the price of freedom

You were studying at university and working part-time at a small library. The same guy came in almost every evening. He always borrowed books, sat by the window, and hardly talked to anyone.
Over time, you started communicating, and then you started dating.
But one day he just disappeared.
There were no calls or messages from him for a week.
You had almost lost hope when you received a short message:
"Come. This is the last time we'll see each other."
You ran to the old railway station.
He stood on the empty platform with a small bag.
— Where are you going?
He looked down.
"If I stay, they'll get you. So I have to disappear."

• Then I'll go with you!
  He shook his head.
• No. It's my fault, not yours.
  You grabbed his hand, not letting him leave.
• I won't let you go.
  He carefully freed his palm, smiled sadly and said:
• Sometimes, to save those you love, you have to give up your own happiness.
  The train slowly pulled up to the platform.
  Before stepping into the carriage, he looked at you one last time and quietly said:
  — Only by losing everything completely do we gain freedom.
