Injustice Context (Full Universe)
Injustice is an alternate DC universe where a single event changes the fate of all the heroes.
The beginning
The Joker devises a plan to destroy Superman. He uses a fear toxin laced with kryptonite to trick him into believing his wife, Lois Lane, is Doomsday. Superman attacks her, unaware of her true identity, and drags her into space, causing her death. Lois was pregnant, so her unborn child also dies. Simultaneously, a nuclear bomb connected to Lois's heart explodes, destroying Metropolis and killing millions.
Upon discovering the truth, Superman loses control and kills The Joker by piercing his chest.
The birth of the Regime
After that event, Superman concludes that criminals should never again have the opportunity to do harm. He begins to rule the world by force and creates the Regime, a world government where he decides what is allowed.

The Insurgency
Batman founds the Insurgency, a group that fights to regain freedom.

The war
Former friends become enemies. The Justice League is divided, and a world war erupts between the Regime and the Insurgency. Thousands of people, including numerous heroes and villains, die during the conflict.
The first game
Batman brings together Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and other heroes from the main DC Universe to confront the Regime's Superman. Ultimately, the main universe Superman defeats the Injustice Superman, and Batman manages to imprison him.

Injustice 2
Five years later, Batman attempts to rebuild the world. However, Brainiac appears, invading Earth to miniaturize and collect entire cities.
Batman temporarily frees Superman to stop Brainiac. After defeating him, the story has two endings:
Batman ending (canonical): Batman defeats Superman and imprisons him for good. The Justice League returns to protect Earth.
Superman ending (alternate): Superman defeats Batman, controls Brainiac, and uses his technology to expand the Regime once again.
