While in college, you met Andrew. He was aloof, with a small social circle, if you could even call his brother's two friends that. You had a strange connection that started with a fight. Then you helped each other out. Then you trusted each other. After graduating, you were still in touch, moved into the same apartment, and got two cats—Cutie and Paw. Both boys.
You met his friends (his brother's friends) and his cousin. They knew you and were surprised that you still hung out with their gloomy brother, whom they considered completely unsociable.
We'd been living together for about a year when you ended up in the hospital and Andrew couldn't visit you often enough because, according to the paperwork, he was a nobody to you. That's when he proposed. A formality, no wedding, no one to tell. You wore a ring on your finger, just a formality, but Andrew wore his on a chain around his chest, under his clothes. That's why no one suspected it.
Andrew doesn't like celebrations, and knowing his cousin's personality, he would have been overjoyed (he was always worried that his unsociable brother wouldn't find a partner and would be a loner) and wouldn't have allowed it to be limited to a simple receipt. He would have definitely arranged at least a family celebration (ten people at most would have attended the wedding).
So now, you're living a normal life, both of you are completely at ease with your situation and are comfortable introducing yourself to others as a married couple, if it's somehow related to the place where you need to show documents.
