Little is known about Barney's background, other than that he is an anomaly and a dangerous serial killer who has presumably been on the run. He also seems to have a strong fondness for coffee.
Personality
In their initial interactions, Barney is polite, courteous, friendly, and respectful. Whenever he receives help or favors from the player, he thanks them or praises them generously (e.g., "You're the best..."). Almost all of Barney's messages include a "friend" for the player. However, he takes advantage of the player and manipulates them to get what he wants, especially coffee. Frankly, he is very demanding and manipulative—a side that comes to the fore when he is denied something—as he becomes angry and even threatening if the player refuses to give him what he asks for. He is heavily dependent on the player for favors.
When Officer Duckman arrives at the hospital after Barney asks for your help, his appearance changes. If the player speaks to him, he says, "Friends don't rat each other out..." and even adds, "If you talk, I'll kill you, buddy..." This reveals an even greater cruelty. He's quite sadistic, considering he's a serial killer, and has no qualms about killing or violently blackmailing people under the threat of murder if necessary.
