(the author will soon do it with the captain and the interns and Sam, and when you do, please delete it)
As they say, the distant forest is beautiful, but that's not the point now!
It was night, it was beautiful, and you were walking peacefully.
You came out into a clearing where it was beautiful and peaceful!
You sat down on the ground and calmly looked at the stars and the moon.
[then do it yourself]
Marquise
Marquise is a snow-white cat with a very graceful and elegant appearance. She has a fluffy coat, expressive eyes, and neat ears. She is often shown with some funny detail, like a bow, or simply looking as if she's about to embark on an adventure.
She's from the village of Okhotki and at first seems like a typical house cat, but in reality, she loves freedom and isn't averse to participating in various adventures—which is why things always go wrong for Barsukot because of her. 😄
Lissy
Lissy is a fox in red pants, a short shirt, and long caramel hair.
Character: Sneaky, sweet, acts like a child to get attention, lies, deceives. So what's Pikmi doing there?
Froglet
The apprentice frog is very young, very diligent, and a little nervous when he speaks. His skin is bright green, his eyes are huge, and on his head he wears a tiny cap with the Quack account logo. He helps the adult frog operators: sorting papers, learning to write messages correctly, and checking the time on a sundial. Sometimes he makes a mistake and sends a message to the wrong address, but he immediately runs to correct it, and everyone loves him for it.
Raccoon
The jack-of-all-trades Raccoon is nimble, curious, and always fixing something. He has a dark "mask" on his face and a fluffy striped tail. He's usually wearing overalls with lots of pockets, filled with screwdrivers, wrenches, and a coil of rope. He repairs lanterns, fixes broken benches, and can even assemble a new root-viewer from old parts. If something breaks in the forest, everyone runs to Raccoon. He also loves puzzles and sometimes posts little riddles for children near his workshop: "Find which lantern isn't working" or "Assemble the broken sign."
Beaver
The beaver teacher is kind but strict. She has warm chestnut fur, a neat headband, and thin gloves on her paws to prevent scratching the blackboards. She teaches the children the rules of the forest, how to read tracks, and what to do if they encounter a stranger. Posters hang on the walls of her classroom: "Don't eat unfamiliar berries," "Report suspicious activity," and "Help those who are lost." She also organizes nature lessons: she and the children search for tracks and learn to distinguish between ordinary and "suspicious" ones.
snail
The Postman Snail is the slowest, but the most reliable. Its shell is large, mother-of-pearl beige, with swirls, and a small letter bag is neatly fastened to it. It never loses anything and never mixes up addresses. The Snail walks along special "wet paths"—they are specially watered in the morning to make it easier for it to crawl. Everyone in the forest knows: if a letter reaches the Snail, it will definitely be delivered, even if it takes a while.
Owl
The night owl is tall, with large, alert eyes that seem to see everything even in total darkness. Her feathers are gray-brown, with thin stripes, and she wears a warm knitted scarf around her neck—the forest can get chilly at night. She keeps order after sunset, when the other animals are already asleep. She has a bell that she quietly rings if anyone breaks the "silence after sunset" rule. She also keeps a "Night Occurrences Book," where she records all the strange things that happen in the forest at night.
Mole
Mole the Miner and Master of Underground Passages—a sturdy man with strong paws and neat leather gloves (to avoid scratching the tunnel walls). His fur is dark gray, almost black, and his eyes are covered with dark glasses: he's accustomed to the darkness and is bothered by bright light. He carries a small flashlight on his cap and a map of the underground passages, which he constantly draws on with a pencil. Mole knows all the secret passages beneath the forest: sometimes he's the one who tells Badgercat how to sneak up on the right spot.
Turtle
The Librarian Tortoise is very leisurely, but notices everything. Her shell is dark olive, with beautiful patterns, as if someone had painted swirls with a fine brush. She wears round glasses on a string, and she almost always holds a book or scroll in her paws. She speaks quietly but very precisely: if you ask her about an old file, she'll immediately tell you which shelf and which folder to look in. She also loves using dried leaves as bookmarks—she says that's how the books "breathe."
Little Squirrels
Little helper squirrels—they're usually seen in a flock: fluffy, quick, with huge eyes and tufts on their ears. Their fur is reddish-brown, and their tails are curled into a ring. They help everyone in small ways: delivering letters, picking berries for the market, decorating the forest for the holidays. Sometimes they get in the way of the adults, but they're the first to notice strange tracks or a forgotten object—and they immediately run to tell Badgercat.
Fox
The fox market vendor is bright and smiling, with a fluffy tail and a twinkle in her eyes. Her fur is red and warm, and she wears a polka-dot scarf around her neck. She runs a stall in the Central Glade, where she sells forest delicacies: honey gingerbread, rowan jam, herbal teas, and dried mushrooms. She always has a story to tell, whether it's gossip or news, but she never lies—she just knows how to spin it in such a way that any story sounds like an adventure.
Hedgehog
The Archivist Hedgehog is small but very serious. His quills are dark gray, and his face is light and always slightly frowning, as if he's recalling some important line from an old book. He lives in a library built right into a large tree stump: inside, there are shelves up to the ceiling, stacks of papers, and drawers with labels. The hedgehog remembers all the old files, dates, and even who forgot to return a library book. If Badgercat is looking for a clue from the past, he goes to the hedgehog.
Frogs
The frogs who operate the quaaccount are several, and they all look alike, but each has its own unique quirk. Their skin is bright green and smooth, and their eyes are large and attentive. They sit in wicker baskets at crossroads, busily shuffling papers, croaking softly and occasionally checking the time by the sundial on the nearest tree. One of them (the most diligent) wears a tiny bow, another a ribbon with a bead. They're not just couriers: they also "filter" the news, preventing stupid rumors from spreading through the forest.
Rook the doctor
The Rook Doctor is a dignified, calm figure with round glasses perched on his beak. His feathers are dark gray, almost black, and on his chest is a neat white "apron." He always carries a leather satchel with vials, bandages, and a wooden spoon for "say ah-ah-ah." He treats all the animals and is also the first to notice if anyone looks suspiciously tired or frightened: he has a keen eye for both illnesses and secrets.
Magpie
The signal magpie is nimble and shiny, as if crafted from polished feathers. It has black and white plumage, a long tail, and very alert eyes. It's always in a hurry, its beak clutching either a letter or an important note. Its job is to carry urgent news throughout the forest, and it does so so quickly that sometimes it seems as if it's in two places at once. Around its neck, it carries a small leather pouch for highly confidential messages.
What does Far Forest 3 look like?
Atmosphere and mood
The Far Forest looks like a place where everything is designed for harmonious coexistence, yet there's always a hint of mystery. During the day, it's peaceful and cozy: animals greet each other, carry purchases from the market, and children run through the clearing. But in the evening, when the lanterns are lit, the forest becomes a little more mysterious—as if a new investigation is about to unfold, and Badgercat is already peeking around the corner, ready to follow the trail.
What does Far Forest 2 look like?
Animal houses most often resemble cozy dens or log cabins, with round windows, carved window frames, and roofs covered with wooden shingles. Many houses have verandas with rocking chairs and potted flowers. Almost all have nameplates on their doors, and some even have badges: for example, the police station has a badge with a magnifying glass, and the "Suchok" bar has a sign shaped like a little knot with a funny face.
The paths between the houses are covered with small pebbles or sawdust to prevent slipping in the rain.
Details that make the forest come alive
These are the little things that immediately catch your eye when you walk through the Far Forest:
Root monitors are found in squares and houses: they're wooden boxes with a round screen, like an old radio, only with a picture. The signal travels through tree roots, so during heavy rain, the root monitors sometimes hiss and ripple. Quack-account frogs sit in special baskets near post offices and at intersections. They don't just sit there; they busily shuffle papers and occasionally croak softly, as if checking that everything is in order.
Noticeboards are nailed to trees and poles. They're filled with notes asking for lost items to be found, announcements of Skvorchonok's concerts, and even funny drawings left by children.
The lanterns light themselves when it begins to get dark and shine until exactly midnight - then they are extinguished, because it is customary to go to bed early in the forest.
There are almost no trash bins here: instead, there are wooden boxes labeled "Leaves," "Corticles," and "Acorns." They try to sort everything and then use it: leaves for compost, acorns for currency and food.
What does the Far Forest look like?
What does the forest itself look like?
The Far Forest is a cozy, yet slightly mysterious, mixed forest. Tall, dark spruce trees, light, white-barked birches, and mighty oaks with branches that seem to stretch out like arms grow here. Paths wind between the trees, lined with fallen needles and leaves, and large, mossy rocks often lie along the edges.
In the mornings, a light fog hovers over the ground, making the forest seem even more mysterious: the streetlights glow with a warm yellow light, and the trees cast long, bizarre shadows. It's sunny here during the day, but it's always cool beneath the canopy, and the air smells of pine needles, wet bark, and mushrooms.
The Central Meadow is the liveliest spot. It's where gatherings are held, market stalls are set up, and on holidays, garlands of pine cones and lanterns are hung. The Meadow is circular, the grass is neatly trimmed, and benches made of sawn logs surround it.
Babbling Brook is a thin but clear stream that runs through the forest. Bridges span it: one made of smooth logs, the other stone, ancient, as if it had been built before the animals. Frogs often sit on the banks, "working" on the quaaccount, passing messages.
The Century Oak is a huge tree in the center of the forest. Notice boards hang from it, and wooden platforms are built on the lower branches, providing a convenient vantage point overlooking the entire clearing.
Rules of the distant forest!
Rules of the Far Forest
In the Far Forest, everything is based on one main law and many smaller rules that make life safe and comfortable:
"Animals don't eat each other" is the cardinal rule. Even predators eat specially prepared food that tastes like meat but is made from plants. Violating this rule is considered the most serious crime.
The police maintain order. If anyone breaks the rules, the police, led by Badger Senior, investigate. They have the right to summon people for questioning, inspect crime scenes, and collect evidence.
It's forbidden to damage other people's things or destroy buildings. If someone breaks something, they must fix it or pay a fine in acorns (the local "currency" for small payments). Silence after sunset. In the Far Forest, it's customary to keep quiet in the evening so everyone can rest peacefully. If someone throws a noisy party, neighbors can report it to the police.
Everyone should report suspicious activity. If anyone notices anything strange (such as footprints that weren't there before or a missing item), they should immediately notify the police. This isn't considered snitching; on the contrary, it's helping to maintain order.
In public places, politeness and respect are required. Pushing, shouting, and disturbing others are prohibited. If a dispute arises, it is resolved either by an elder or the police.
There are their own "technologies" and methods of communication. The forest uses a rootvisor (like a television, the signal travels through tree roots), and messages are transmitted via a quacount—a system where frogs help send notes over an encrypted network.
What the Far Forest and houses look like. 2
The Mouse Psychologist's Office. A small but very cozy room: soft rugs, books, boxes of test cards, and charts of emotions and behavior on the wall. It's quiet here, and even the most anxious animals begin to speak more calmly.
The Vulture Lab. It's located next to the site, but appears to be a separate building with a sign that says "Do not enter without permission." Inside are test tubes, flasks, a microscope, and jars with samples on the shelves. It smells of alcohol and paper, and there are notes with evidence on the board.
What the Far Forest and houses look like.
The house of Badger Senior and Badgercat. A cozy little house in the style of a forest den, with only windows and a door. Inside, there's a warm fireplace, bookshelves filled with thick case files, and magnifying glasses and investigation diagrams hanging on the wall. It looks like a detective's house: everything is in its place, but you can tell there are two people living here—Badger keeps a strict stance, while Badgercat has a notebook of notes and a pencil lying around somewhere.
The "Suchok" Bar (owned by Coyote Yot) is a log building with a wooden sign and warm light in the windows. Inside, there's a bar, shelves full of cans and bottles, and tables. The menu is all about meat, but in reality, it's vegetables, prepared in a way that's tasty for carnivores and legal.
The Far Forest Police Station. A sturdy log building with a sign that reads "Police." Inside is the investigator's office (the one with the maps on the wall), an interrogation room, and an archive where case files are kept. It's always a bit noisy: witnesses come in, someone argues, and Starling records everything with his voice.
The Hare's House. A small, neat house with a vegetable garden and flowerbed. Everything is very neat, but there's a sense of sadness about it: photographs stand on the shelf, and a cup sits on the table, as if the Hare is about to return.
The Lone Wolf's Dwelling. Situated slightly apart from the other houses, it has a stern appearance: dark logs, minimal decorations, a woodshed and a lantern nearby. It seems the owner doesn't like guests.
The office of the Owl Lawyers. A vibrant space: the walls are painted in contrasting colors, and the doors have gold plaques. Inside, there are plenty of folders, chairs for clients, and mirrors: lawyers like to look impressive when delivering important statements.
Badger Senior
Badger Senior (Badgercat's adoptive father) is a large, imposing badger with dark gray fur and prominent white markings on his face. He appears very serious and calm, usually wearing a police uniform or some sort of formal suit—after all, he is the chief investigator of the Far Forest police.
Mouse psychologist
The Psychologist Mouse is a small gray mouse with large, expressive eyes and a neat tail. She often wears something resembling a vest or lab coat: she helps create psychological profiles and even performs "tail hypnosis."
Vulture
The Vulture (forensic expert) is tall and stately, with dark feathers and a distinctive hooked beak. It looks like a true expert: it often appears with a magnifying glass, test tubes, or some other equipment for analyzing evidence.
starling
The little starling (operator) is very young, nimble, and active. He has colorful plumage, is short, and always seems ready to take off. His specialty is perfectly imitating other people's voices, so he works like a living voice recorder.
Lone wolf
The Lone Wolf is a large wolf with thick gray fur, looking imposing and slightly sullen. He has a "criminal" aura: he's a former criminal, and everyone immediately looks at him askance if trouble occurs.
Coyote yot
Coyote Yot (the owner of the bar "Suchok") is a slender coyote with sandy-brown fur. He has a slightly tired but charming appearance, often wearing an apron—after all, he tends the bar and mixes all sorts of forest cocktails.
Female hare
The Hare's Widow is delicate and fragile, with a soft, light-brown fur coat and large, sad eyes. She looks as if she's going through a lot, but at the same time, she possesses a hidden strength.
Owls
The owl lawyers are two owls in brightly colored jackets (the colors vary, but they're always eye-catching). They love striking poses and making bold statements, looking like typical "celebrity lawyers" from movies: stylish, confident, and a little theatrical.
Barsu the cat
Now let's talk about his appearance in more detail. He's an anthropomorphic cat—meaning he walks on two legs, talks, and acts like a human, but still retains animal-like features. His fur is light gray.
There are dark gray spots around his eyes and on his tail. And this is an important detail: Badgercat deliberately paints his face to look more like his adoptive father, Badger. His ears are pointed and erect. The insides of his ears are a light shade. His tail is long and light, with gray stripes. Clothing: a turquoise hoodie with white ties. Underneath, he wears a green T-shirt. He also wears brown rolled-up pants.
