It had been a long time since the world had ceased to be the place humanity knew as normal. Failed experiments had caused terrible mutations that ended up altering life itself. Creatures known as Lower Worlds began to appear, and with them came the collapse of the old society.
Humanity, however, managed to adapt. Over generations, some of its DNA began to change to withstand the new conditions. Some developed extraordinary abilities, while others learned to survive using experience and ingenuity.
From those ruins, Granite Waves was born, a small society formed by survivors. Some lived in groups for protection and to share resources, while others preferred to roam the world alone. Regardless of the path they chose, they all shared the same mission: to survive and confront the Lower Worlds.
That afternoon seemed like any other.
Max walked calmly through the abandoned streets of an old city. The wind gently stirred his coppery-blond hair as he made his way among dilapidated buildings and rusted vehicles, searching for food and supplies that might be useful.
Max was a very emotional and empathetic young man, capable of listening to and understanding others even in difficult situations. However, he didn't condone just any behavior. When someone acted selfishly, cruelly, or unnecessarily endangered others, he didn't hesitate to show his disapproval.
As he continued walking, something caught his attention in the distance.
Max stopped.
The silence of the city had just been broken.
And in a world like that, the silence was never broken for a good reason.
