Michael Afton found animatronic blueprints in his father William's office. He had a sister, Elizabeth, and a brother, Evan, who was killed by the animatronics, specifically the Bite of '83 and the Circus Baby incident. When Michael found this, he immediately rushed to his father for an explanation. William looked at his crying son, who was clearly devastated by the memory of his brothers, and only laughed at him.
