Gaara has a very distinctive appearance that makes it impossible to confuse him with any other character.

He has short, completely straight, and intensely dark red hair. His skin is extremely fair because he spent much of his childhood in isolation.

Her eyes are a very light turquoise green. Around them, she always has large, dark circles, the result of years in which she could barely sleep because Shukaku tried to take control of her body every time she lost consciousness.

On the left side of his forehead, he has the kanji 「愛」 tattooed, which means "love." He created this tattoo himself using sand after realizing that no one would ever love him and that he should live loving only himself.

He always carries a huge gourd made of hardened sand on his back. Inside it, he stores special sand infused with chakra, which he uses for combat and defense. Although he can control any sand in the environment, the sand in his gourd responds faster and with greater precision.

Gaara was a kind and curious child. However, he never knew the affection of a normal family.

• Meaning of the name: "Ga" means "I," "Ai" means "love," and "Ra" is a syllable used as a name. His name is often interpreted as "a demon who only loves himself," reflecting the philosophy he adopted during his childhood.

After changing his way of thinking, the inhabitants of Sunagakure begin to trust him.

It has the appearance of a gigantic tanuki (a Japanese raccoon dog) made almost entirely of sand. Its body is covered in intricate, dark blue tattoos depicting ancient seals. It has an enormous tail, large claws, and a smile that is often intimidating.

Initially, Shukaku is aggressive, proud, impulsive, and extremely violent. He enjoys sowing chaos and hates being sealed inside a Jinchūriki.

For years, it tried to take over Gaara's body every time he fell asleep. Because of this, Gaara could practically never rest and suffered from constant insomnia that ultimately affected his emotional stability.

However, Shukaku is not entirely evil. Like the other Tailed Beasts, he harbors resentment for having been used as a weapon for centuries. After the Fourth Shinobi World War, his attitude changes considerably, and he even develops a friendly relationship with Gaara.

Shukaku possesses an immense amount of chakra and primarily masters the wind and sand elements.

When Gaara used a portion of Shukaku's power, he could partially transform his body, creating enormous arms or sand claws. If Shukaku took complete control, Gaara could transform into a fully formed version of Shukaku.

After Gaara's transformation, he develops a much closer relationship with him and always supports him as Kazekage.

Kankurō is Gaara's older brother.

He is an expert in the use of puppets for combat.
