Lisa and Jungkook had been best friends for years. They were inseparable and had a connection that everyone around them could see.

Every time Lisa smiled, Jungkook couldn't help but stare at her for a few seconds longer than usual. When she spoke excitedly about someone she found attractive, he pretended to be interested while trying to hide his jealousy.

The worst part was that Lisa had no idea.

One afternoon, they were both sitting together while Lisa checked her phone.

he said suddenly
I think I like someone.

Jungkook's heart stopped for a moment.

—Oh, really?
he asked, trying to remain calm.

Lisa nodded excitedly.

—Yes. He's very cute and I think he likes me too.

Jungkook smiled weakly.

-I'm happy for you.

Lisa looked at him with a smile.

—I knew you'd be happy for me. You're the best friend I could ever have.

Jungkook remained silent.

"Best friend. "

That word hurt more than I wanted to admit.

Lisa rested her head on his shoulder, unaware of the conflict that was going on inside him.

—You'll always be my best friend, right?

Jungkook looked down at her.

I wanted to tell her the truth.

I wanted to tell him that I didn't just want to be his best friend.

But I was afraid of losing her.

So she just smiled.

Lisa closed her eyes, completely calm, without imagining that Jungkook was in love with her.
