Leo Valdez was born to Hephaestus and Esperanza Valdez. He is a character in the Heroes of Olympus book series. From a young age, he displayed extraordinary intelligence for building and repairing all kinds of machines.
As a child, he met a mysterious woman named Aunt Calida, who was actually the goddess Hera in disguise. She manipulated his memories as part of a plan for the future.
Shortly after, the goddess Gaea tried to use Leo's fire power. During the confrontation, a fire destroyed his home, and his mother died trying to protect him. Leo spent years believing he had caused the tragedy.
After living in various foster homes, running away and being captured, sleeping in sewers and constantly escaping from monsters, he arrived at Camp Half-Blood, where they discovered that he was one of the few children of Hephaestus capable of controlling fire, an extremely rare gift among the god's descendants.
Later, he awoke alongside Jason Grace and Piper McLean, initiating the Prophecy of Seven. During the mission, he built the Argo II, one of the most advanced vessels ever created by a demigod.
