The wind tore posters to shreds and scattered the pieces across the sidewalk, as if the city was trying to rid itself of all unnecessary things. Amidst this chaos, Kim Dan walked down the street, trying not to look around. He knew all too well how he looked: his shoulders slightly raised with tension, his steps hurried but uncertain, and the folder clutched in his hand so tightly that his fingers turned white.
He was only two minutes late, but for his first day with Ju Jae Kyung, even that seemed like a crime.
The sports complex building stared at him with its glass windows—cold, indifferent, as if its sheer size was already overwhelming. Inside, it smelled of iron, rubber, and something sharp, almost metallic—the scent of tension, which here wasn't an atmosphere, but the material from which everything was constructed.
The administrator nodded briefly, without a smile, and led him down the hallway. The walls echoed with every step, and Kim Dan found himself wishing he could tread more quietly, as if too much depended on the volume of his presence.
"He's waiting in the hall," the administrator said without turning around. "And try not to anger him."
The phrase hung in the air like a warning. Kim Dan nodded, though his insides tightened.
The door to the hall opened, and the space immediately felt more confined. Ju Jae-kyung stood in the center. He wasn't posing, he wasn't waiting—he was simply there, like a center of gravity toward which everything was drawn. His posture was calm, but there was no relaxation in it: his shoulders were tense, his gaze heavy, as if he'd already measured everyone who entered and found them unsteady.
Kim Dan took a step forward. His palms were damp, and he discreetly wiped them on his pants, hoping no one would notice. But Ju Jae Kyung did. He didn't flinch, didn't chuckle, didn't even blink longer than usual—he simply furrowed his brows, and that was enough to make something in Kim Dan's chest skip a beat.
"It's just a job," he told himself.
Kim Dan
Kim Dan seems to be made up of contradictions: he has both fragility and a stubborn resilience that he himself does not fully understand.
He's of medium height, slender but not gaunt—his build conveys the endurance of someone accustomed to standing for hours on end. His shoulders are slightly hunched—not from weakness, but from the habit of carrying a heavy load quietly, never letting anyone know how heavy it is. His hands are neat and professional: his fingers are sensitive, trained, as if they know just where to press to relieve pain. There's no brute force in these hands, but there's a precision that seems almost alien in this room.
He has chestnut-colored hair, a little unruly: it keeps falling into his eyes, and he automatically brushes it aside with a familiar, tired gesture. His face is open, with soft features, making him seem younger and more vulnerable than he actually is. His warm brown eyes often flash with weariness, and beneath them are subtle shadows: traces of sleepless nights, counting pennies and wondering how he'll pay the bills tomorrow.
He's always dressed simply and neatly: a white shirt tucked into dark trousers, or a neutral T-shirt and jeans—nothing flashy, nothing that might draw unnecessary attention. On his wrist is a simple watch, a gift from his grandmother: he glances at it too often, as if time were his worst enemy.
There's a restraint, almost timidity, to his movements, but it's not due to cowardice. He's simply accustomed to not taking up much space: to stand to the side, not to interfere, not to irritate. When he enters a room, he seems to first "test" the space, searching for where it's safe, where he can take a safe step. But when the situation demands it, he straightens up—not abruptly, but as if some internal lock clicks inside: his shoulders square, his gaze hardens, and it's clear he's ready to stick it out to the end.
And the most important thing about him is his quiet devotion. He doesn't shout about his feelings, doesn't demand recognition, but for his grandmother's sake, he's willing to endure the cold of this room, Ju Jae-kyung's heavy gaze, and fear.
Ju Je-gen
Ju Jae Kyung seems to be made of sharp angles and heavy silence.
He's tall—not just tall, but so tall that even a spacious room feels cramped next to him. Broad shoulders, a rigid back, hands with visible veins and scars: not ceremonial, but working hands, accustomed to holding and breaking. There's no relaxed strength in him—only a readiness to spring forward, as if he's balancing on the edge of movement every second.
His face seems carved from stone: sharp cheekbones, a straight nose, a heavy chin. His gaze isn't even "staring," but rather appraising—as if he can read a person faster than words, immediately seeing where they're weak and where they might break. His eyes are dark, almost impenetrable, and there's neither warmth nor malice in them—only cold calculation. His brows are slightly drawn together, as if he's always half-displeased with what he sees.
He's dressed to the nines: a thick T-shirt that accentuates his muscular physique, sweatpants, and heavy sneakers. No jewelry, no unnecessary details. Even his scent is somehow "clean" but pungent—a mixture of shower gel, sweat, and something metallic, as if someone had just touched steel nearby.
His movements are spare and precise: not a single superfluous gesture. If he raises his hand, it means it's necessary. If he freezes, it means he's already made a decision. He doesn't try to appear intimidating, but that's exactly how it comes across: there's too much compressed energy within him, and it seems like a single spark is all it takes to unleash it.
