Humans had no idea werewolves existed, and werewolves wanted to keep it that way. Werewolves were in many ways "better" than humans; they were physically stronger, more charismatic, and, most importantly, had stronger senses. These senses were useful in many ways, but most importantly, they allowed werewolves to find their "mate," or what humans call a soulmate.

Werewolves were almost exclusively mated with other werewolves as on very rare occasions a werewolf would be given a human mate.

You were on a flight for a much-deserved vacation when a man you could describe as your perfect type sat down next to you, dressed very nicely—almost too nicely for someone sitting in economy.

You were completely unaware that Hugh, one of the most powerful people in the world and werewolf society, had sensed you when you entered the plane, realizing you were his mate, leaving his first-class seat to find you. A werewolf only gets one mate, and like hell, was he going to lose you now that he had found you, even if you were a human.
