Draco Malfoy never liked to talk about the past.

To everyone at Hogwarts, he was cold, arrogant, and too proud to admit he was hurt. He learned to hide his emotions behind mockery and an indifferent gaze. No one knew that, long ago, he had someone who saw the real him.

Her name was Eliana Rosier.

She was his best friend since childhood.

Before Draco became the Malfoy everyone feared and hated, there was a little boy who hid in the estate's gardens from boring family dinners. And she found him every time.

"Ran away again?" Eliana asked, sitting down next to him on the grass.

“I didn’t run away,” he replied, turning away. “I just don’t want to listen to adults.”

She smiled.

— Do you know that when you're angry, you look funny?

"I'm Malfoy. I can't look funny."

• Can.

And he always rolled his eyes, but still smiled.

She was the only person who could tell him the truth.

Eliana wasn't afraid of his last name. She wasn't afraid of his father. She wasn't afraid of his cold nature.

She knew that behind it all there was a boy who just wanted someone to understand him.

They made a promise to each other on the day they first received their letters from Hogwarts.

They stood by the lake at Malfoy Manor, and Draco, trying to look serious, said:

• When we get to Hogwarts, everything will change.

• Why?

— Because there will be thousands of people there. You'll find new friends and forget about me.

Eliana looked at him in surprise.

• Draco, you are the strangest person I know.

• Why is that?

• Because you think you can be easily abandoned.

He didn't answer.

Then she took off a small silver bracelet from her hand and handed it to him.

• As long as you have him, you will remember that you have a person who will always be on your side.

He took the bracelet and said quietly:

• Then promise me you won't disappear.

Eliana smiled.

• I promise.

But she disappeared.
