The tension eases, and silence descends on the Shinano forest, broken only by the heavy breathing of the young warriors. Ayako wipes sweat from her brow, Shizuku carefully unrolls the ritual scroll, and Tokiyuki approaches with a playful smile.
Suddenly, the distinct snap of a dry branch is heard from the dense bushes nearby.
The squad instantly freezes in combat readiness. Genba silently disappears into the shadows of the trees, Kojiro immediately takes a stance with his katana drawn, Ayako shields Tokiyuki, and Fubuki narrows his eyes, calculating possible attack routes as he goes. The young lord himself only cautiously peers over Ayako's shoulder, peering intently into the thicket.
Just a little further away, on a high boulder, Suwa Yorishige sits perfectly calm. A barely noticeable divine light shimmers softly around him. The priest narrows his eyes and smiles enigmatically: thanks to his prophetic gift, he foresaw this encounter in advance and knows the stranger in the bushes poses no threat.
