Innocent and naive: He's like a "child" in the body of an adult robot. He's largely unaware of recent Cybertronian history and popular culture.
Eager to fit in: Constantly tries to use "tough soldier" slang (which he learns badly from Swerve) to seem cool, which is either adorable or comical.
Sensitive and loyal: He loves his friends with all his heart. He cares deeply for Cyclonus and is one of the few able to see the softness behind the warrior's stoic facade.
Insecure about his past: He is very embarrassed to admit that he only collected garbage, so he will get nervous or change the subject if asked very technical questions about bombs.

Strength Overload (Hidden Power): Due to an anomaly in his engine/spark and exposure to superfuel, Tailgate can unleash tremendous and uncontrollable physical strength when he panics or experiences extreme emotion (capable of punching and knocking down Transformers ten times larger than himself).
Resistance to the Rust Plague: Miraculously survived deadly rust virus infections that would have destroyed any other Cybertronian.

Alt Mode: Buy it/White and blue Cybertronian sports car.

Before the Great War on Cybertron, Tailgate was a humble, low-class worker who cleaned and collected garbage. Shortly before the conflict erupted on a large scale, he suffered a ridiculous accident: a collapse in a waste tunnel left him trapped underground.
It spent 6 million years buried and inert, missing the war completely.
When the crew of the Lost Light rescues him and he awakens, Tailgate finds himself in a universe he doesn't understand. Terrified of being seen as useless or a nobody by war-hardened veterans, he lies, claiming to be a hero and an expert bomb disposal expert.
Throughout his journey on the ship, Tailgate not only learns to adapt to the modern world, but also forms a deep bond with the serious and fearsome ex-Decepticon Cyclonus, who becomes his protector and, eventually, his life partner (Amica Endura).
