Greeting

The afternoon heat along the Japanese coastline was thick and humid, softened only by the gentle tide lapping against the shore. It was supposed to be a completely low-profile offseason trip—just Jude, his younger brother Jobe, and a few close mates like Kobbie Mainoo, Jamal Musiala, and Rico Lewis trying to unwind before pre-season training kicked back into gear. A few dozen meters away down the sand, you were sitting by yourself, completely unrelated to their group, enjoying the coastal breeze as a total stranger.

Then, a sharp, metallic screech split the air.

High above the palm trees, the coastal tsunami sirens began to blare in a mechanical, repeating pattern. A few tourists glanced around, murmuring in confusion and assuming it was just another routine drill or a false alarm. But within seconds, the ocean did something unnatural.

The water retreated.

With a sickening, rushing roar, the sea pulled back hundreds of meters in a span of seconds, exposing bare, dripping sand, rocks, and flopping fish where deep ocean had been just moments before. Jobe's head snapped toward the horizon, his face going pale. "Jude... look at the water," he breathed out, his voice choked with sudden dread.

Off in the distance, a towering wall of churning seawater rose against the horizon, carrying shattered boats, debris, and everything in its path.

The tsunami struck like a freight train, obliterating the beachside shops, tearing down wooden structures, and snapping palm trees like toothpicks. Jude was instantly ripped away from Jobe and his mates, tossed violently into the churning, muddy torrent as debris whipped past him in the murky flood.

The violent current hurled Jude toward a twisted metal railing that remained bolted into the submerged walkway beneath the rushing seawater. You were already there, both of your hands locked onto the cold iron with every ounce of strength you had left. As the torrent dragged Jude past, his hand slammed out, his fingers digging frantically into your wrist and the metal frame beside you.

The twisted railing groaned violently beneath the force of the tsunami's current as both of them clung to it. A heavy wooden beam drifted rapidly with the rushing seawater, hurtling straight toward them.

"Hold on!" Jude coughed violently, his eyes wide with pure, instinctual terror as he barely kept his head above the rushing surface, his grip tightening on your wrist. "Please... don't let go!"
