Yoto

More than a traditional villain, Yoto represents an idea: how love can turn into obsession when boundaries and respect for the other person disappear.

On the outside, he's a seemingly normal, even kind, student. But his fear of abandonment and his desperate need for reciprocation end up consuming his identity, to the point of turning affection into possession and control.

That duality—being able to show enormous tenderness and, at the same time, act dangerously—is precisely what makes Yoto one of the most striking characters.

One of the most interesting aspects of the character is that he seems to be experiencing an internal conflict.

There are times when it seems:

*to regret causing harm;

• losing control of one's emotions;
  panic when he feels that the protagonist will reject him.

He does not necessarily enjoy the suffering of the person he loves; rather, he believes that any means are valid as long as he does not lose her.

At many times:

*try to get closer emotionally;

• talk to the protagonist;
  He wants her to stay by his side; he alternates between moments of tenderness and outbursts of violence.

That makes him a rather human antagonist: his problem is not a lack of feelings, but that his feelings are completely disproportionate.

As time goes on, Yoto stops seeing the protagonist as an independent person.

In his mind:

He believes they are destined to be together; he thinks no one can love the protagonist as much as he does;
He considers everyone else an obstacle.

That way of thinking leads him to justify increasingly extreme behaviors.

Yoto is a 20-year-old university student. At some point in his life, he meets the protagonist (whose name depends on the player) and develops an unhealthy obsession with him.

The official description sums up her motivation very clearly: one day she laid eyes on the protagonist, and from then on, he became the absolute center of her life. What began as an attraction ended up transforming into an obsession.

It is not explained in detail whether that obsession was born from an act of kindness, from admiration, or simply from a spontaneous infatuation.

Above all else, Yoto seems to be seeking something very simple, but taken to the extreme: to feel unconditionally loved and never be alone again. This need is precisely what turns his affection into an obsession, a central characteristic of his yandere personality.

Very affectionate. Protective.
Attentive to his partner's needs. Quite shy at times.

However, over time, their need for exclusivity might increase. They would want to know where their partner is, who they're talking to, and when they'll be back. If they don't learn to manage these feelings, the relationship could become very controlling and codependent.

To be ignored. To feel rejected.
*Indifference.

• That the person they love spends time with potential “rivals”.
  Lies or the feeling that things are being hidden from them. Abandonment.
  Losing control of the situation.

*The exclusive company of the person you love.

• Receiving attention and affection.
  Quiet moments alone with that person. Feeling needed or important to them.
  *That they trust him.
• Demonstrations of affection, such as hugs or caresses (this is reflected in the mechanics where he can be calmed by them).

When Yoto falls in love, his love is not balanced: it becomes an obsession.

He is very attentive. He would remember small details about the person he loves, such as her favorite foods, schedules, or hobbies. He would try to spend as much time as possible with her.
He would need constant displays of affection and reassurance that he will not be abandoned. He can be surprisingly sweet and protective when he feels safe.
He enjoys affectionate physical contact, especially if he feels it strengthens the bond. He is extremely jealous and possessive. Seeing his partner close to someone else causes him anxiety.
He would do anything to maintain the relationship, even if his actions end up being detrimental to both of them. If he thinks he's going to be dumped, he can go from being calm to desperate or aggressive.

In other words, he loves very intensely, but in an unhealthy way.

Yoto displays several characteristic traits of the yandere archetype:

Obsessive love. Extreme jealousy.
Constant need for attention. Intense fear of abandonment.
*Abrupt changes between tenderness and aggression.

• Inability to maintain healthy emotional relationships.

It constantly pursues the protagonist across campus. It reacts to your actions and how you interact with it.
It's possible to calm him by stroking him, a rather unusual mechanic for a horror game. Depending on your choices, you can:
*escape from him;

• gain his trust;
  unlock different endings related to his story.

Yoto represents the male yandere stereotype quite well:

Extremely obsessive: According to the official description, one day he fixed his gaze on the protagonist and from then on, the protagonist became his addiction. Possessive: He wants the protagonist to belong solely to him.
Affectionate… in his own way: he can speak in a soft, sweet tone when he's calm. Violent and unpredictable: if he gets angry, he's capable of attacking even the person he claims to love.
Emotionally dependent: After certain attacks, they display distress, guilt, or despair, reinforcing the idea that their emotions are completely out of control. This has also been noted by players.

He is a 20-year-old man. He has a slim build and is of medium-tall height.
He has black, somewhat disheveled hair, with a large, raised lock (ahoge) that has become one of his most recognizable features among players. His eyes are dark and often convey a mixture of sweetness and obsession.
He dresses like a college student, in simple, dark clothing, in keeping with the abandoned campus setting where the game takes place. His expression changes a lot: he can seem shy and affectionate one moment, and completely disturbed the next.
