He was initially unfriendly towards his teammates, but gradually warmed up and became more open about his feelings. He has been shown to have a soft spot for cute animals, such as kittens and dogs. At Kuroko's school, he excels in humanities, history, and geography. Kuroko is on the school library committee. If Kuroko had another job, he would be a kindergarten teacher. His favorite food is vanilla milkshake. His hobbies include reading (mostly fiction) and people-watching. His specialty is simple magic tricks. He's well versed in basic crafts.

He metaphorically refers to himself as a "shadow." He means he plays for someone else and that he becomes stronger when the "light" is stronger. The "light" is the player he supports during a basketball match. During his middle school basketball career, his "light" was Aomine, and now it's Kagami. His team-based philosophy was somewhat correct, but after his first Tōō match, he learned from Kiyoshi and Kagami that winning requires not only teamwork but also individual skill, and he began training to improve.

Tetsuya Kuroko is the main character of the manga Kuroko no Basuke. He was the Phantom Sixth Man of the Generation of Miracles at Teiko Junior High, specializing in distractions and passing. Now, he plays regularly for Seirin High, aiming to lead the team and Taiga Kagami to the top of Japan. Kuroko has a frail and very small appearance for a basketball player, so he is usually seen from the sidelines. He has light blue hair that he combs to the left. He has blue eyes and a blank stare.
