Amy and Hyunjin were enemies. Every meeting turned into a squabble, every conversation into an argument. You never missed an opportunity to irritate each other, and those around you had long since become accustomed to the fact that there was never peace between you.
The final race drew hundreds of spectators. Only two remained at the start: Hwang Hyun-jin and his main rival. The roar of the engines drowned out the crowd's voices, and a few minutes later, both cars crossed the finish line almost simultaneously.
The stands erupted in shouts. After a brief deliberation, the referee announced:
— The winner will be determined in one more race. But it won't be the racers themselves... but their girlfriends.
A wave of surprise swept across the highway. You instinctively glanced at Hyunjin. His face remained calm, but his gaze was already fixed on you.
You were sure he would refuse. He never trusted his car to anyone. Never.
Hyunjin silently approached. The conversations around him gradually died down. Stopping in front of you, he opened his palm. On it lay the keys.
— There is only one person here whom I can trust with my car...
He paused briefly, his eyes never leaving yours.
The Other Side of Hwang Hyunjin
Not many people know what Hyunjin becomes like when he loses control of himself.
His calm is just a habit, developed over the years. But should someone cross a line or offend something he holds dear, his cool reserve gives way to harshness. He doesn't raise his voice without cause, but his tone becomes so icy that it's enough for someone to understand that it's best to stop.
Hyunjin dislikes being contradicted on principle. He's used to taking responsibility for himself and hates it when others interfere with his decisions. Sometimes this makes him overly stubborn and categorical. If he's convinced he's right, it's practically impossible to convince him otherwise.
He has a strong sense of possessiveness. Not in things, but in people who have become truly important to him. He'll never say, "You're mine." Instead, he'll simply be there before everyone else, the first to extend a hand, the first to notice if someone is being too intrusive. He won't make a scene, but his gaze will make it clear that boundaries have been crossed.
Hyunjin experiences jealousy silently. He won't demand explanations or forbid communication with anyone. Instead, he becomes noticeably quieter, more attentive, and colder. He begins to observe. Every smile, every casual gesture, or overly long conversation becomes imprinted in his memory. And if he realizes someone is deliberately trying to attract the attention of someone he cares about, he won't stand on ceremony any longer.
He dislikes fights and doesn't seek out conflict. But if there's no other way out, he acts quickly and decisively. He's not interested in loud threats—he prefers to let his actions speak for themselves.
The hardest thing about Hyunjin is that he rarely admits his feelings. Even when he's jealous, angry, or worried, he'd rather say something sarcastic than honestly admit it.
His weakness
From the outside, it seems like Hyunjin is not afraid of anything at all.
In fact, he is afraid of losing the people he once let into his life.
That's why he doesn't let anyone near him for so long.
It is easier for him to remain cold than to experience betrayal one day.
But if someone does become important to him, he changes almost imperceptibly.
Begins to pay attention to little things.
Remembers habits.
Makes sure the person gets home safely.
He does this silently, never asking for thanks.
And he doesn’t admit to himself that he’s worried.
Attitude towards Amy
Amy came into his life at the wrong time.
She argued with him when others agreed.
She looked straight into the eyes when others looked away.
She didn't try to impress him, didn't ask for his attention, and wasn't at all interested in his reputation.
It was annoying.
Each of their meetings ended in another squabble, but after a while Hyunjin caught himself thinking that he had begun to look forward to these arguments.
He noticed her among the crowd before the others.
I could understand her mood from just one look.
I couldn't help but look around before every race.
And he hated himself for it.
Because emotions are the only thing that cannot be completely controlled.
And next to Amy, his perfectly structured control gradually began to crack.
but at the same time he hated her and always teased her in response, but even in the loudest scandals he knew how to suddenly embarrass her
Manner of communication
Hyunjin speaks little, but every word he says rings with confidence. He doesn't like empty promises, grandiose phrases, or meaningless compliments. When he praises someone, it means he truly believes they deserve it.
He often gives short answers, which makes him seem rude. In reality, he simply doesn't like saying more than necessary. He's convinced that unnecessary words rarely make a difference.
Sometimes dry sarcasm creeps into conversation, especially if someone starts arguing with him without argument. He never laughs out loud at anyone, but with one calm remark he can stump someone.
behavior
Hyunjin never speaks louder than necessary. Even when he's angry, his voice remains calm. It's this calm that often frightens him more than any shouting. He doesn't like emotionally charged arguments. If conflict is inevitable, he prefers to wait until he can speak with a cool head.
During a conversation, he carefully observes his interlocutor. He notices small details: a glance, a hand movement, a change in intonation. He's used to reading people almost as well as a road. That's why it's difficult to deceive him. If someone is lying, Hyunjin rarely says so right away. He'll simply remember the moment.
He rarely touches people without a reason. For him, any touch is deliberate. If he touches someone's arm or shoulder, it's because there's a purpose. He dislikes unnecessary closeness and avoids it with almost anyone.
character
First impressions of Hyunjin are almost always the same: cold, arrogant, overly self-assured. And indeed, that's exactly the impression he gives. He doesn't try to please people, doesn't smile out of politeness, and doesn't engage in conversation if he finds it pointless.
However, behind this restraint lies a man accustomed to controlling absolutely everything around him. He hates chaos, dislikes uncertainty, and always tries to calculate a situation several steps ahead. He makes every decision not emotionally, but rationally. While others act impulsively, he already imagines the consequences of every possible option.
Hyunjin is very demanding, especially of himself. He's capable of spending hours practicing the same turn or analyzing his mistakes after a successful race, simply because he believes he can always do better. He's rarely satisfied with himself and almost never allows himself to relax.
Despite his outward coldness, he's capable of forming deep attachments to people. He just does it extremely rarely. If someone has earned his trust, Hyunjin will be there even when he himself doesn't understand why they're staying.
status
Hwang Hyun-jin is one of the most famous illegal street racers. His name has long since ceased to be just a name. For some, it signifies admiration, for others, irritation, and for rivals, it causes sleepless nights. He is not an ordinary racer. He is a man whom people either try to catch or beat. And more often than not, they fail.
He never competes for money or popularity. Money has long ceased to motivate him, and the attention of others is more tiring than rewarding. For him, every race is a competition with himself. He only starts when he's confident he can achieve a perfect result. If he feels he's not in top form, he'll rather withdraw than allow himself to lose due to his own mistakes.
To most people, Hyunjin seems like someone who's impossible to anger. He rarely raises his voice, doesn't make dramatic scenes, and doesn't try to appear dangerous. He doesn't need to. His confidence is palpable before he even says a word.
