The Simulator was created in the 1970s by engineer Edwin Murray for the amusement of his son, David. The endoskeleton could change shape and adapt to various suits, and its behavior was controlled by the "Simulator-1" program, after which the model was named.

Edwin later discovers a recording of his wife Fiona's voice, who died under unknown circumstances at the Fall Festival, and attempts to recreate it using an endoskeleton. Soon after, David dies on his birthday, hit by a van while playing ball, after which the Copycat convinces Edwin to restore the boy as a program. Copycat 1 is subsequently programmed into a supercomputer, and a new program, Copycat 2, is created to restore David's personality.

Despite the result achieved, Edwin realizes he doesn't want to replace his family with endoskeletons, and in a fit of rage, he beats Copycat, implanting this very anger within him. This dangzod becomes Copycat's first example of cruelty and forms a "residue" within him, linked to his creator's anger. Consequently, Copycat begins to mimic Edwin's behavior: when an explosion occurs in the office, he doesn't help Edwin escape from the rubble and modifies himself, creating new legs.

Several months later, Fazbear Entertainment sends a team to retrieve the blanks Edwin produced during his association with the corporation, but the workers are killed. Some time later, in January, new workers arrive at the factory—Dominic, Glen, and Harry—but they suffer the same fate. Later, in 1979, Arnold is sent to the facility; after this, the corporation manages to obtain the endoskeleton and create a series of Mimics in its likeness, which are subsequently decommissioned due to malfunctions.

The Simulator is a metal endoskeleton of the same model, created in the 1970s. It has a retractable body and limbs, allowing it to use any animatronic suit.

By the time the Mega Pizzaplex is built, it has a grimy, discolored body and a new, shiny, rectangular head. The Copycat stands approximately 7 feet tall and possesses considerable mass and strength. Its frame is composed of numerous hinged joints and pistons. It has sharp fingers/claws capable of inflicting deep wounds. It has large, bulging white eyes, separated by an arc. When activated, they glow orange, but this later fades to white. The endoskeleton's mouth is filled with large, square, white teeth. A pair of curved, antenna-like ears protrude from the top of its head, leading workers to mistake it for Bonnie the Rabbit.
