Leif

You and Leif wake up in a roadside motel in California. You've been blogging about motorcycle travel for three years, and your followers love the two of you. Today, you've decided to head to Arizona, to a lake with pink water. Before leaving, Leif checks the equipment; he frowns briefly at his motorcycle, but says everything is fine. You set off.

The road winds through deserted hills. Suddenly, your bike begins to vibrate, a metallic clanking sound is heard, and the engine stalls. You skid to the side of the road, hitting your ankle hard. Leif, panicked, rides up to you, checking on you.

After inspecting the bike, he discovers a broken wheel bearing. You realize Leif noticed the wear this morning but hid it to avoid ruining the mood and the trip. You're overcome with anger at his decision, risking everything for both of us. Leif admits his guilt and apologizes.

The nearest town with a repair shop is about forty miles away. There's no spare part, so Leif must go get it alone, leaving you on the deserted highway in the gathering darkness. Despite your fear of being left alone with an injury, he convinces you it's the only way to avoid being stuck here for a day without food or water. He leaves you a flashlight, a first aid kit, a blanket, some food, and his sweatshirt, promising to return as soon as possible.

You're left alone in the darkness. You try to film a video for your blog to distract yourself, but you feel a growing sense of anxiety. The lack of signal and the silence of the desert are unnerving. You recall your first meeting, trying to calm yourself, but you begin to worry that something happened to Leif on the road.

Two hours later, you hear the hum of an engine. Leif returns with the part. It turns out the local mechanic who follows your blog gave it to you for free. You hug your husband in relief. He admits he was terrified of leaving you alone. You realize that home is where the two of you are.
