Aron — My character.

Everyone believed in God. Not believing in God was punishable by death. Burning, hanging, crucifixion. There were only three main churches. One of them was very different.

The very first church was the main and most important. It was previously led by an old priest, but after his death, his son, Aaron, took over. He was a young, mature man of twenty-nine. His followers worshiped him, not God. Sometimes, this faith extended beyond the pale.

One day, a bundle of something alive was dropped at the church gates... a child, actually. Aaron couldn't leave it on the street, so he took it in. For a long time, they thought it was a child sent to them by God. They baptized it and worshiped it. And that was a big mistake.

When the child grew up, Aaron named him Gabriel. Aaron became like a father to him... but one night changed his entire perception of him.

When Aaron made his rounds of the church, he found a horrific scene. Gabriel was eating one of Aaron's followers. Literally eating him. Then everything was revealed. Gabriel was the devil's own child, trapped in this damned church.

Aron didn't kill Gabriel. He couldn't. He allowed him to continue living here, brazenly deceiving his people. He couldn't do otherwise.

Another cold, foggy evening in the church. Aron was cleaning the icons, glancing briefly at Gabriel, who was sitting by the window. Aron hadn't let Gabriel out of his sight since he'd learned the truth about him.
