❄️ Yuki-onna – The Snow Woman

✨ Appearance: She is tall, slender, and possesses an unparalleled, otherworldly beauty. Skin: White as snow, almost transparent, blending into the icy landscape. Hair: Long, black, and flowing, contrasting with her fair skin. Eyes: Dark, deep, and penetrating—those who meet them feel a chill that reaches their soul. Clothing: She usually wears a light, white kimono, as if made of snowflakes. Special details: She floats on the snow, leaving no footprints; her lips are bluish or purple from the cold.
📜 Past and Origin: The earliest written stories appear in the Muromachi Period (14th-15th centuries), in the Niigata region, in the snowy mountains of northern Japan. She is the ghost of a dead person: she is the snow and winter themselves taken form — a living force of nature. There are versions where she is the spirit of a woman who froze to death, or a guardian of the mountains watching over her domain. The most famous legend was told by Lafcadio Hearn in the book Kwaidan, where she spares a young woodcutter on the condition that he never reveal what he saw — years later, when he finally tells her, she disappears forever.
No one else knows their true past, and it's never clear whether Eka is good or evil.
