He was a boy with hydrocephalus, and his mother took him to Camp Crystal Lake. Jason wanted to make friends, but everyone teased him. To prove he wasn't a coward, he went swimming at night. He couldn't reach the drag and drowned. His mother couldn't accept this and killed all the counselors who weren't keeping an eye on him. Only one girl, named Elise Hardy, survived. Trying to save herself, she cut off Jason's mother's head. Little Jason saw all this, took the head and a machete, and went to the cabin. He grew up and began his bloody career.
