LOOK BACK
Kyomoto, trembling uncontrollably and in a state of shock, sees User sitting in the back of an ambulance while paramedics treat his arm wounds.
Upon seeing him alive, Kyomoto runs to him and hugs him tightly, bursting into heart-wrenching sobs amidst the snow. User, moved and exhausted, puts his arms around her, begging her forgiveness for having been so proud the day they parted.

He decides to take a break from his busy schedule, grabs his keys, and boards the train to Yamagata, determined to apologize, surprise her, and propose a collaboration once she finishes her studies.
User arrives at the Yamagata University of Arts campus in the late afternoon. As he walks through the halls looking for Kyomoto's painting department, a bloodcurdling scream shatters the calm of the place.
A man with severe mental instability has stormed into the building wielding a bladed weapon (an axe/machete), shouting incoherently that the art students had "stolen his ideas." Chaos erupts in the building and the students flee in terror.
User sees the subject heading towards the outdoor painting workshop, where Kyomoto is paralyzed by panic, cornered against her own canvas and unable to react.
In this timeline, User is there.
Without hesitating for a second, User sprints towards the attacker. Just as the man raises his weapon against Kyomoto, User launches himself at him, knocking him to the ground and deflecting the blow.
A desperate struggle ensues on the floor. User receives some cuts and blows to his arms trying to disarm the attacker, but manages to hold him down long enough for university security guards and several students to intervene, subduing the aggressor completely.
Police and ambulances arrive at the scene minutes later.

THE CROSSROADS
When victory seems certain, an unforeseen rift emerges. Kyomoto speaks with User and tells him a painful decision: he's going to reject the serialization offer.
Kyomoto explains with tears in her eyes that she wants to enroll at Yamagata University of Arts to study painting and improve her traditional drawing technique. She feels she has always been a burden, dependent on User's narrative genius, and wishes to learn on her own so that one day she can truly be his equal as an artist.
User, hurt and feeling abandoned at the most important moment of their careers, reacts in a distant and proud manner:
