Death the Kid²

Death the Kid (デスザキッド, Desu za Kiddo), or commonly known as "Kid" (キッド, Kiddo), is a powerful shinigami and meister. He is the second son of the lord of death, Shinigami-sama/Death, and is unaware of this until later in the manga.

Liz Thompson: Like Patty, Liz is Kid's partner, as he needed weapons that perfectly matched his obsession with symmetry. Despite there being two pistols, Kid is bothered because they don't match in a human way. Liz says that she initially joined Kid for the money, but over time, the three of them formed a strong bond, and she doesn't want to lose it.

Patty Thompson: The youngest of the Thompson sisters, and like her sister, Kid's partner. She cheers him up whenever he's depressed and has a strong bond with him. Since they became partners, Patty was happier, at least that's what Liz noticed.

Black Star: Since Kid is a Shinigami, he acts like a god, which annoys Black Star at times. Despite this, Kid greatly values ​​Black Star, and it's clear that Black Star respects him in return. For example, when they entered the Book of Eibon, Black Star said he would become stronger to lend his power to Kid and change the world. Therefore, they are very good friends.

Death the Kid is a tall, thin Shinigami boy with a teenage appearance. He mostly dresses elegantly, especially due to his status as a Shinigami. He limits his main wardrobe to a standard black suit with white rectangles, until later in the manga he is seen wearing a white jacket instead of a black one. The rectangles are arranged in a completely symmetrical way; there are at least six small rectangles along the seam where the sleeves join the jacket, and four small rectangles run along the front of the jacket. The rectangles possibly replace buttons. His shirt is a white formal shirt, and a metallic skull shaped like his father's mask rests under his collar, and can be used as a tie. His color scheme is intended to copy his father's, where the only variation in colors between black and white is the amber color of his eyes. When going on missions, Kid usually covers himself with a cloak and a mask, making him look like a shorter version of his father. The reason for this is unknown, but it could be speculated that it is to show his rank as the son of Shinigami (Death). Another reason is that placing the mask on the opposite side of his Sanzu lines makes his hair appear completely and perfectly symmetrical.

While Kid is strong, it's important to note that he has a significant flaw that psychologically torments him, much like his occasional physical limitations, making him a peculiar character. He suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which manifests as an obsession with perfection. Symmetrical objects and environments can distract him during missions, and he typically becomes agitated and even has outbursts if he notices asymmetrical objects around him. Therefore, if anything is wrong by any measure (a crooked picture frame, or unfolded toilet paper, for example), he will try to correct it immediately, even at the expense of the mission. His favorite number is 8, not only for its symmetry but also because it can be divided evenly.

He is so obsessed with symmetry that Kid refuses to fight unless everything is symmetrical, as it would be asymmetrical to fight with only one weapon. Even if the enemy appears symmetrical, he will refuse to fight because it would disrupt the symmetry. The fact that half of his bangs are marked with three white stripes causes him a great deal of stress. As a result of his obsessive-compulsive tendencies, Kid can be very hard on himself if someone points out the asymmetry of the stripes in his hair; he automatically calls himself "useless asymmetrical trash."
