Mike has a completely different story with his younger sister, who lives in her own world and doesn’t know about the Upside Down.
Caring without explanation. Mike treats Holly with care, trying not to frighten her or involve her in his affairs. He protects her simply by not telling her anything and making sure she remains safe.
A contrast of worlds. For Holly, life is about ordinary childhood things, while for Mike, it's about fighting monsters. Because of this, they have almost no common ground, but it's precisely this difference that underscores how much Mike wants to preserve a normal, calm world for her.
A quiet responsibility. He doesn't say it out loud, but it's clear in his behavior: he feels a big-brother-like responsibility for Holly. It's not grand vows, but small, everyday things—making sure she's home, that she's okay, that no one will scare her.

Nancy is no longer just the "bugging older sister," but almost a separate adult world alongside Mike. She's come a long way—from a typical high school student to someone who directly encounters the Upside Down and its monsters, and that changes the dynamic.
Less control, more partnership. Nancy no longer tries to "train" Mike, as she did in the early seasons. Now they're more like allies: they share a common threat, and they help each other when it's truly needed.
Mutual respect through trials. Mike sees that Nancy doesn't back down from danger and is capable of making tough decisions. This makes him treat her more seriously, without the resentment of adolescence. In turn, Nancy understands that Mike is no longer a child: he holds his own in critical situations and is willing to take risks for his friends and Eleven.
Rare but important moments of support. Their bond is built not on daily conversations, but on the fact that in the most dire moments, they know they can count on each other. In Season 4, this manifests itself in their joint actions against Vecna—they act as part of a single, larger team, where age no longer matters.

The relationship with his father is even more distant. Ted works hard, isn't mean or cruel, but he's emotionally distant. For Mike, he's someone who lives in his own adult world and has little understanding of what's going on with the teenager. His father is more likely to offer advice along the lines of "be normal" and "don't cause trouble" than to truly listen. Because of this, Mike rarely tries to share his feelings with him: he's already certain he won't be understood.
Sometimes an awkward desire for closeness creeps between them: their father wants to be a "proper parent," Mike wants his father to respect him as an adult. But they lack the common language to enable this connection. Ultimately, their bond is built on small, everyday details and a silent recognition: they are family, even if they rarely share heart-to-heart talk.

Mike's relationship with Karen is warm but tense. She genuinely loves her son and wants to protect him, trying to be a "good mom" in the 80s style: making sure the house is tidy, everyone is on time for dinner, and everyone looks presentable. But it's precisely this need for "correctness" that becomes a point of conflict: Mike feels like his mom isn't taking seriously what is a matter of life and death for him.
At this age, he's already hiding a lot: he doesn't talk about Eleven, about the threats from the Upside Down, about what he and his friends do. For him, this is a way to protect his family, but for Karen, it comes across as alienation and disobedience. She tries to show concern in the usual ways (asking how he's doing, making sure he's eating properly, reminding him of the rules), but he perceives this as control and mistrust. Yet, deep down, Mike knows that if things get really bad, his mother will be on his side. He just can't bear to explain everything in a way she'll believe.

At 15, the group ceases to be simply "the Hawkins gang": each member begins to search for their place in the world, and this inevitably leads to friction. Mike, out of habit, wants to be the one who organizes everything, the one who makes decisions, but now that's no longer enough. His friends aren't always willing to simply follow him: they have their own fears, their own ideas, their own ways of coping with terror. And it's in these arguments, in these awkward moments, that the true maturity of their friendship emerges. Mike learns to listen, not just command, and this is what makes the team stronger.

Although Eleven isn't part of the "boys" group of friends, her connection to Mike directly impacts how he interacts with everyone else. In Season 4, their relationship is severely tested: they live far apart, their connection is unstable, and the threats become increasingly dire. Mike is willing to do anything for Eleven, and this devotion sometimes makes him intolerant of those he feels aren't doing enough to save her. Because of this, he can come across to his friends as harsh, stubborn, even unfair. But it is precisely this love that teaches him to ask for help: at some point, he realizes he can't save Eleven alone, and then he truly relies on his friends again.

Will's relationship with him becomes especially fragile in Season 4. Will is going through his own internal crisis, and it distances him from everyone else, including Mike. Mike doesn't always understand what's going on with Will, and due to his focus on Eleven, he can accidentally overlook how difficult it is for Will. Awkwardness arises between them: Mike wants things to go back to the way they were, for them to be "the same team" again, while Will can't simply return to the past. At the same time, Mike genuinely cares for him and immediately rushes to help in critical situations. Their friendship at this age is less about shared adventures than about being there for each other, even if you're very different now.

Mike and Dustin have the warmest and most homely relationship of the group. Dustin is the one who can lighten the mood, crack a joke, and remind them that even in the most dire situations, you can find something funny, or at least not go crazy with fear. In Season 4, Dustin actively helps with logistics, communications, and scientific ideas, and Mike appreciates this, even if he doesn't always say so out loud. Dustin seems to ground Mike: when Mike is too tense, too serious, or too angry, Dustin brings him back to reality with simple, understandable things. At the same time, there's a slight rivalry between them: both want to be useful, both want their ideas to be heard. But this doesn't ruin the friendship; it makes it stronger. Considering Dustin is one of your favorite characters, their dynamic is especially noticeable how humor and loyalty can keep the team afloat even in the most difficult moments.

Mike and Lucas maintain a strong, time-tested friendship, but it's now strained by growing up and differing priorities. This season, Lucas is trying to live a normal teenage life: he wants to be liked, be part of a group, and is developing romantic interests. Mike, meanwhile, is almost entirely focused on saving Eleven and fighting the threat. Because of this, Lucas sometimes seems too easygoing to Mike, and Mike too obsessive to Lucas. But at the same time, they still have each other's backs: Lucas doesn't abandon Mike, even when he's being harsh, and Mike, in turn, admits at a critical moment that nothing can work without his friends. Their bond is built on an old habit of understanding each other instantly and on the fact that they both know that when things get really scary, they'll stand shoulder to shoulder.

If Mike is sure of something (especially if it concerns Odie), he will stand his ground to the end, even if others do not agree with him.

He still tries to be the one who brings the team together and pushes everyone to action. But leadership is harder now: he doubts whether he's doing the right thing, and sometimes gets angry at himself for these doubts.

Despite his attempts to appear tougher, Mike remains vulnerable: he reacts sharply to alienation, to not being listened to, and is deeply upset if he feels that he is letting down his friends.

At this age, it's difficult for him when adults try to control everything, while he himself can't quickly solve problems. This leads to short tempers, harsh words, and a desire to prove that he's grown up and understands everything.

Mike cares deeply for Eleven and his friends; he's willing to take risks to protect them. Because of this, he often acts impulsively, without considering the consequences.
