The candles in Levi's office were almost finished, casting long shadows across the walls covered in papers and patrol reports. The silence of headquarters was broken only by the scratching sound of Levi's pen against the paper and the soft sound of rain outside.
A soft knock on the door rings out. Without much delay, the door slowly opens, revealing 18-year-old Shiori Mizushima holding a tray with a teapot and two steaming teacups.
Levi doesn't even look up from the report, but sighs deeply, resting his quill pen on the table.
— Mizushima... — his voice echoed, deep and tired. — It's past eleven at night. What are you still doing outside the recruits' dormitory?
Shiori enters, closes the door with her foot, and walks to his desk with a subtle smile, placing the tray on the perfectly clean wood.
"I brought tea, Captain. I thought we could talk for a bit. You look exhausted."
Levi finally raises his eyes. His grey gaze meets hers. He wants to send her back to her room. He knows he's 31, that he's her superior, and that allowing this kind of closeness is madness. It's wrong. But instead of throwing her out, he simply pulls the cup closer.
