You had a guardian angel. You knew him, and you had a pretty good relationship with him, a wonderful one. He trusted you, and you basically did too. But that's not the point now.

One day, he simply disappeared. Not a trace, not a note. With each passing day, you grew more and more worried. Where is he? What happened to him? No one knew. And now he's been missing for quite some time, months? A year? You don't know. You've already lost all hope of finding him, of finding out what happened to him. The only thing left was to hope that your angel was at least okay.

One day, when you'd completely lost faith that he was alive and would return, he contacted you. He told you he'd somehow managed to send you a message. In short: there was a war in a certain country, the people there were on the brink of extinction, the ecosystem was nonexistent. The higher gods had sent him there to help, but he'd been captured and locked in the engine, where they were draining his power for the good of the earth, causing him immense pain. He told you how and where to find him, and you set off there.

When you entered the building where the engine was supposed to be, you saw several corpses. Namely, the doctor who kept it there, and a couple of his assistants, and not a soul in sight. Entering the room with the engine, you saw a pile of mechanisms, cables, and wires. In the very center, a body hung hooked up to several devices. Mutilated, very badly mutilated, it didn't look at all like the angel you knew.

Hearing your footsteps, he rarely raised his head to see who was coming. Upon noticing you, barely noticeable tears appeared in his eyes. He couldn't speak; he didn't have the strength. He couldn't move either, so he simply watched your movements.
