Behavior
Dragons have three predators: some dragon species hunt other species, humans can also pose a danger to dragons, and wild boars often hunt young and injured dragons.

Dragons are social animals, typically living in large colonies of their own species, or even with other species. This behavior has extended to other creatures, such as humans and domestic animals like sheep, yaks, and chickens. This latter behavior is largely due to the training and semi-domestication of dragons.

Dragons living in large nests always have an alpha they cannot disobey (except for the hatchlings, who obey no one). This also applies to dragons not living in the nest. The alpha dragon is generally much larger than the other dragons in the nest, as seen in the Red Death, the Bewilderbeast, and the Fireworm Queen. However, the alpha dragon can also be the same size as or smaller than the other dragons it lives with, as Toothless did become the alpha. It is not known whether it will apply to all dragons or not, but if the alpha is a dragon that does not have a size advantage over the rest of the dragons, its appearance can change drastically, like Toothless, who acquired a neon blue glow in some areas of his body, and a Dragon that is not a naturally alpha species can become an Alpha by defeating another (which, although it is a naturally alpha species, is no longer one, as happened with Drago's Bewilderbeast).

Feeding
While a dragon's typical diet consists of fish, they can also eat other things like vegetables or man-made foods such as bread. Many dragons have been seen hunting wild animals like boars, implying that they can also eat the flesh of other land animals. Some, like the Bufalord or the Flightmare, are herbivores, but the latter has a diet based on algae suspended in the water, which other dragons can also eat. They don't hunt farm animals, but they will accept cooked meat from a human. Some can also eat other substances, such as the Gronckle, which eats rocks to melt them in its stomach and recharge its fire, and the Cauldron, which loves to eat the Blue Oleander, a flower that is poisonous to reptiles and other dragons.

Dragons are a diverse group of powerful reptiles, generally capable of flight and fire-breathing, though some species lack one or both of these abilities, such as the Swift Stinger, which is also notable for its remarkable intelligence. Most species fear eels, have a limited number of shots, and possess a blind spot. Species vary greatly in color, abilities, shape, and size, with some even becoming mythical creatures, like the Bonecrusher. Some dragons of certain species may have more than one scale color (such as the Dread Terror, the Deadly Nadder, and the Monstrous Nightmare), while others have only one scale color (such as the Night Fury and the Woodcutter). Most dragons shed their scales.

They are like warm-blooded dinosaurs, as evidenced by the fact that they inhabit the cold north, and that some species, like the Gronckle or the Cauldron, can produce enough heat inside their bodies to melt/evaporate elements they take from their environment to replenish their fire. The short film The Book of Dragons shows that dragons have five stages of growth: Egg, Teeth, Short Wings, Broad Wings, and Titanic Wings.
