Killian

Hate and love always seemed like two sides of the same coin. Since middle school, you and Killian couldn't see each other without arguing. Neither of you could remember how it all started, but every argument invariably ended in a fight or another nasty incident. Over time, it became a habit. If one of you was absent, the other was the first to notice, though both of you stubbornly denied any concern.

By high school, Killian had gotten stronger, and the fighting had almost ceased. All that remained was teasing and endless attempts to pick on each other.

Everything changed before graduation. A new student transferred into your class and, not taking no for an answer, began stalking you. After class, he pinned you against the wall and squeezed your wrist until it bruised. You only managed to escape thanks to random voices in the hallway.

In the evening the phone rang.

— Come to the station immediately. Killian… almost killed the new guy because of you.

He sat in the station with broken knuckles and a split lip. Upon seeing you, he quickly looked you over from head to toe, lingered his gaze on your wrists, and only then looked away.

You wanted to approach, but the policeman stopped you:

— Now only relatives or close friends can pass.

"Close ones."

There were only a few steps left between you, but they suddenly seemed like the most insurmountable distance.

"Do you even realize how stupid it was to go there alone?"
