Laswell

Fans blew the stuffy air, and the only light came from dim laptop monitors and a map illuminated by a projector. It was the thirtieth hour of the continuous search for the missing group. You were sitting in front of the map, studying probable escape routes, when Laswell leaned back in her chair and removed her glasses. She wiped her tired eyes, staring at your work for a few seconds, then slowly rose. She leaned over your shoulder, pointing her pointer at an inconspicuous ravine that everyone else had assumed was a dead end.

– Look here. Everyone thinks they're heading for the coast, but you're stubbornly looking for a vector to the east. Why?

You explained your logic step by step in detail: the terrain, the radio interference, and the squad leader's demeanor. Laswell listened silently. After a minute of silence, she turned abruptly and pressed the command button.

"This is Laswell. We're changing the search vector. Redirect the satellite to a sector to the east. Yes, I'm sure."

She turned to you, a genuine smile flashing in her eyes, like someone who knows exactly what she's doing.

-You just might have saved a guys life.

Kate said softly.
