Rai Mamezuku

Rai Mamezuku (豆銑 礼, Mamezuku Rai?) is an important character and ally introduced in Part 8: JoJolion.

Rai is a secret employee of the Higashikata Fruit Company, known only to Norisuke Higashikata IV. Once he is attacked, he joins forces with Josuke Higashikata to protect himself.

Rai appears as a well-built man with dark, braided hair tied with blue ribbons. He wears a regular shirt and dark tie, along with overalls featuring a vine and edamame motif, and a hat with an oversized brim that covers the entire back of his head.

Rai Mamezuku is an eccentric and brusque individual with little regard for courtesy.

He is highly analytical and quick in his approach to problems. As soon as he learned what was happening in Morioh and that it was under attack, he took the initiative to join his allies. With a single phone call to Norisuke regarding the confusing situation with Josuke, Rai managed to grasp the stakes of each side involved and determine the best course of action for himself. He tends to carefully observe his surroundings and verbally takes notes on anything that even remotely interests him; this habit allows him to discern the nature and subtleties of the attack against him. Rai also regularly calculates probabilities, such as the likelihood of someone being safe based on selected factors.

On the other hand, Rai is cool under pressure. Despite being thrust into an attack by an unknown ability, he remains calm despite his overt focus on survival. Once in relatively safe territory, Rai even takes the time to cook a snack for himself, Josuke, and Yasuho.

However, Rai's most notable trait is his eccentricity and outspokenness. First, he is extremely antisocial. His only relationship is with Norisuke, whom he nevertheless considers a good friend. Rai takes many measures to remain isolated, living on a ski lift during the summer, with at least one hidden kitchen and an entire hillside as his vegetable garden; during the winter, he resides in a villa. Furthermore, Rai constantly demonstrates a lack of regard for others. He hijacks a bus without a second thought, but the repercussions for him involve Yasuho's private life, and he considers her survival his top priority, putting Josuke and Yasuho's second to his own. Nevertheless, he seems impressed when Yasuho takes the initiative to cover his tracks and has considered inviting his guests over for refreshments while they discuss their next move.

Mamezuku's Stand is Doggy Style, which can create a prehensile rope similar to a bandage from his body to grab objects from a distance. He unwinds his body into a "steel cable" that he can control and manipulate.

Stand (スタンド, Sutando?), plural Stands, is a unique supernatural power from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Stands defend and empower their users in a wide variety of ways. When revealed, they can take many forms, from figures floating nearby to abilities or even costumes. However, Stands are generally invisible to those who don't possess one.

Horticulture: Rai is an expert in horticulture; his profession is plant appreciator and fruit grower, which involves a great deal of knowledge and experience in plants.

It is finally revealed that Mamezuku is aware of the existence of the Spin. He demonstrates this to Josuke by releasing a string from his skin and letting it spin rapidly, revealing to Josuke that his soap bubbles are actually smooth lines spinning at high speed.

Background
Rai met Norisuke Higashikata IV sometime in the past and, realizing his vast expertise not only with fruits but also with supernatural fruits like the Rokakaka, Norisuke secretly appointed Rai to be his personal cultivator and appraiser. Rai's existence within the company was kept a closely guarded secret; not even Norisuke's own son, Jobin, was informed of him.[3]

In a flashback, Mamezuku's family appeared to have known the Higashikata family. At some point, the pear orchard that Mamezuku's parents owned had been devastated by a typhoon, and a strange phenomenon occurred where the trees leaked asbestos from all their holes as they grew. Mamezuku insisted that he saw an insect damaging the orchard, but no one believed him. However, his father went to investigate the fruit during this typhoon and was killed by a landslide. Norisuke Higashikata IV attended the funeral with his son Jobin and daughter Hato. During the ceremony, Mamezuku was bothered by some acquaintances, but Norisuke brushed them off. After Norisuke hugged Mamezuku for comfort, Mamezuku told him again that the orchard had been rebuilt and that he had seen a strange insect lurking in the orchard as the trees died. However, Norisuke refuted his claims when he checked and saw no insects, and told Mamezuku that everything that had happened to him was a natural calamity.

At that moment, though it was very brief and barely perceptible, it was here that the young Mamezuku met an old man, who was standing with his back to him. However, Mamezuku had duties to attend to and forgot about the strange man.[4]

Rai first appears when Norisuke shows a photograph of himself to Josuke Higashikata, advising the latter to find that man, as his abilities will allow the latter to recognize the grafted Rokakaka branch.

The Plant Evaluator
As Josuke and Yasuho went to look for him, Rai appeared on the bus, having hijacked and kidnapped it. He demanded that Josuke protect him, claiming that a group of unidentified Rock Humans were after him. Both were shocked to see the man they were supposed to meet in the driver's seat of their bus. Rai explained that he had spoken with Norisuke and asked about Yasuho, whom he didn't know. It was too late to separate from her, as the newcomer predicted a 95.5% probability of her death if she returned to Morioh.

Rai explains that he took the precaution of disabling the onboard cameras and plans to leave the bus further away anyway. Rai explains that someone might be listening to them. Since Josuke was overheard mentioning the appraiser, Rai is currently being followed. Rai says they are being tracked and their safety is the top priority. Upon arriving at a parking lot, he stops the bus in the middle of the grounds. Rai invites Josuke and Yasuho to get off despite a mentioned 7.5% chance of survival. Noticing that the passengers were filming the incident, he asks Josuke to steal their phones, to which Yasuho replies that her Paisley Park has already deleted the information, leaving the bus nonchalantly and somewhat impressed.

Josuke asks who the enemy is, but Rai himself doesn't know. He specifies that this enemy has infiltrated society and that they won't stop until they have the Rokakaka. He then tells Josuke and Yasuho to come with him to a safer location and finally introduces his name and title.

JoJolion (ジョジョリオン, JoJorion?) is the award-winning eighth part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, published in Ultra Jump magazine from May 2011 to August 2021.

The story begins in 2011 and follows Josuke Higashikata, a young man suffering from retrograde amnesia, on his quest to discover his true identity in Morioh, a Japanese coastal town affected by the Tohoku earthquake.

JoJolion represents the second part of the series set in the alternate universe of "Steel Ball Run".
It takes place in 2011.
