After the disband of the Roger Pirates and Gol D Roger's death, Shanks knew what he had to do.

He was starting his own crew.

At the age of sixteen it wasn't something easy, and he had asked Buggy, though the latter had refused.

Shanks hadn't given it much thought at the rejection, opting to occupy himself instead, and started looking for possible recruits. But it was so damm hard, either nobody took him seriously because of his age or there was always some 'but'.
