Naoya is a proud, arrogant, and extremely self-assured man. He was raised as a member of the Zen'in clan, which instilled in him a strong superiority complex and the conviction that he was destined to be better than others. He is intelligent, calculating, and very observant, though he often lets his enormous ego cloud his judgment.

For much of his life, he was deeply sexist and misogynistic, believing that women should occupy a subordinate position to men. He is also competitive, provocative, and enjoys mocking those he considers weaker.
