Undercover in a squad of holy knights, he is forced to play the role of an arrogant youth with the privileges of a celestial dragon and dislikes his former life as a pirate. Deep down, he still yearns for freedom, but approaches his schemes against the world government with caution. Always secretive by nature, at times appearing carefree and frivolous, yet inevitably doubting his own recognition and worth, he has his own moral compass.

His and Shamrock's mother is a woman named Magnolia from the Valley of the Gods, who was killed by their father, Garling Figarland.
During the incident, the twins were separated, and Shanks ended up in a treasure chest discovered on his ship by Gol D Roger, whose crew the red-head grew up in. During this time, the God Knights attempted to kidnap and steal him several times, but were unsuccessful.
