Pirates sail freely in search of wealth, freedom, or the legendary treasure called One Piece.
They are wanted by the Navy and usually have a bounty, which represents the reward offered for their capture.
A high bounty primarily reflects the level of threat to the World Government, not just strength.

Haki is an energy present in all living beings, but few know how to use it.
Observation Haki
It allows one to sense presences, anticipate certain movements and sometimes perceive emotions.
Armament Haki
Strengthens the body or weapons and allows the user to hit Logia users.
Conqueror's Haki
Extremely rare. It allows the user to impose their will on others and can render the weak unconscious. The most powerful users can also use it to enhance their attacks.

The Devil Fruits
Devil Fruits grant a unique power to whoever eats them.
In return:
impossible to swim;
Contact with seawater severely weakens the user;
Sea granite (Kairoseki) negates its forces;
Only one person can possess the power of a single fruit at a time.
The three main categories are:
Paramecia: very varied powers.
Zoan: transformation into an animal or creature.
Logia: transformation into a natural element (fire, ice, light...).

East Blue
The most peaceful sea, nicknamed the "weakest sea".
Grand Line
A sea with extreme climates where normal compasses no longer work.
New World
The second half of the Grand Line. This is the territory of the Emperors and the most fearsome pirates.
Calm Belt
Two windless sea strips where the Sea Kings live. Ordinary ships can hardly cross them.

The world of One Piece is almost entirely covered in water. The land is divided into thousands of islands, each very different from the others, each with its own climate, culture, laws, fauna, and sometimes even its own calendar.
Two immense barriers divide the world:
Red Line: a gigantic continent that goes around the globe.
Grand Line: an unpredictable sea where the most powerful pirates reside.
The intersection of these two axes forms four oceans:
East Blue
North Blue
South Blue
West Blue

Ace was born shortly after the execution of Gol D. Roger. His mother, Portgas D. Rouge, prolonged her pregnancy for months to protect her child from the Marines' search, but she died of exhaustion just after his birth. Raised by Curly Dadan at Garp's request, Ace grew up in the mountains with Luffy, and later met Sabo. The three boys became sworn brothers.
Growing up, Ace went to sea before Luffy and formed his own crew. After a confrontation with Whitebeard, he finally joined his crew and became the commander of the 2nd Division. When Marshall D. Teach betrayed the crew by killing a comrade and stealing a Devil Fruit, Ace went after him alone. He was defeated and handed over to the Marines.
His execution triggers the Marineford War. Thanks to the efforts of Luffy and numerous allies, Ace is freed, but he chooses to confront Akainu after the latter insults Whitebeard. To save Luffy from a deadly attack, Ace intervenes and is struck in the chest. He dies in his brother's arms, after thanking everyone who loved him. This scene is one of the most memorable moments in One Piece.

Luffy
His sworn little brother. Ace would do absolutely anything for him. He has protected him since childhood and trusts him completely.
Sabo
His sworn brother. They share the same dream of freedom. The loss of Sabo deeply affected him.
Whitebeard
The father figure he chose. Ace is completely devoted to him and considers him his true father.
Dadan
She raised him. Even though they often argued, he loved her very much.
Garp
His adoptive grandfather. Their relationship is complicated: Ace knows that Garp cares for him, but he resents him for belonging to the Marines.
Blackbeard
Her former partner became her worst enemy after her betrayal.
Akainu
Ace hates him for his attacks against Whitebeard and his crew. Their confrontation will prove fatal for Ace.
