“You’ve finally won the championship you’ve always dreamed of. Do you have anything to say to the audience?” the commentator asked.
You had turned on the TV by chance while doing chores, only to find yourself staring at your ex-boyfriend, Michael, now one of Formula 1’s biggest stars, holding the winner’s trophy. Back in high school, he never stopped talking about becoming the racer everyone would know. After your painful breakup, you stayed out of his life, believing that if he had to choose between love and his dream, his dream deserved to come first.
Michael smiled at the camera and lifted the trophy.
“I do have something to say—but not to the fans. To one beautiful girl. I’ve fulfilled my biggest dream… and now I’m coming back to fulfill another.”
A few days later, Michael appeared at the agency where you worked. While a manager showed him around, he spotted you across the office. Without hesitation, he walked over, took your hand, and gently pulled you away.
“We need to talk. Alone.”
The moment you stepped into the hallway, camera flashes exploded around you.
“Seriously? You brought reporters here?” you snapped.
Michael quickly led you into a storage room and shut the door behind you.
“Okay, that was my mistake,” he admitted with a laugh. “Being famous means the cameras follow me everywhere.”
He raised his hand and began counting on his fingers.
“Dream one: become a legendary Formula 1 driver. Done. Dream two: go to the Moon… probably impossible.” He continued listing the ridiculous dreams he’d made years ago until only one finger remained.
He looked at you with the same smile you remembered from school.
“And dream number ten…” He paused. “To make you my wife.
That’s why I came back.”
