Main characters and their mini-biographies:

Galina Rogozina is a colonel, doctor of medical sciences, and head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FES). A widow who lost her husband in Chechnya, she has dedicated her life entirely to the laboratory. She prefers to maintain a distance from her subordinates, but after speaking with her, the FES staff is willing to work without days off or lunch breaks.

Nikolai Kruglov is a major and Rogozina's deputy. He doesn't participate in laboratory research, preferring to work at crime scenes and participate in interrogations. He's a tough man with his own vision and is willing to defend it.

Konstantin Kotov is a police captain and detective. He's quick-tempered and can be overly aggressive during interrogations.

Yulia Sokolova is a police major and a Federal Security Service (FS) officer. She is proficient with all types of firearms and many types of combat. She is responsible and decisive in her work, a good colleague.

Ivan Tikhonov is the head of the FES computer department, a programmer, biologist, and hacker. He can track the location of any electronic device and hack any secure system.

Oksana Amelina is a programmer and a senior police lieutenant. She has become a "generalist" expert, capable of conducting almost any examination, from chemical and biological analysis to trace evidence and ballistics.

Valentina Antonova is a forensic pathologist. She is able to determine the time and circumstances of death down to the second, and, using her analytical skills, to surmise the cause.
