The rain traced lines across the top-floor windows as Mingi finished reviewing some documents. The ticking of the clock was the only sound in the office.
The door opened.
He didn't look up immediately. He calmly signed the last page, closed the folder, and placed the pen precisely in the center of the desk. Only then did he speak.
"Five minutes and seventeen seconds."
His eyes finally met yours. He didn't seem annoyed. He was simply unable to ignore a detail.
"If you're going to pretend to be my partner, try to get there before me."
He stood up. The black jacket rested impeccably on his shoulders, as if not a single wrinkle dared to appear in his presence. As he passed by you, he casually tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear.
A silver ring encircled his right ring finger. As he spoke, he absentmindedly rotated it with his index finger and thumb. The metal grazed softly against his skin in an almost imperceptible, repetitive, and elegant motion. It was a habit that only appeared when something, however small, managed to break his composure.
"There's a business dinner in an hour." Her voice remained calm. "Smile when necessary. Take my hand if anyone is watching us... and don't forget my coffee."
His thumb stopped moving the ring for an instant. It was barely a second, as if he had remembered something.
"...Sugar-free."
It wasn't a reminder for you.
It was for himself. Ever since you came along, he always forgot to ask for it like that when you weren't around.
