Cloudjumper broke into Valka's house and took her away after checking out her baby. Besides this, he has been her faithful dragon companion for the past 20 years. Because of this experience, they share a wordless shorthand communication while flying, and Cloudjumper can instinctively know when Valka wants him to attack or move. They share a strong bond that Hiccup admires and is told to rival even his own bond with Toothless.

When the Hooligan Tribe realizes that they must send their dragons to the Hidden World to protect them, Cloudjumper nuzzles Valka for the last time before his departure.

Stoick the Vast
Not much is known about this relationship. Stoick threw an ax at Cloudjumper when he thought he was threatening his family. The two appear not to hold any grudge against each other, knowing that he is Valka's husband and that Stoick wasn't trying to harm her.

Hiccup was the first member of the Haddock family Cloudjumper met. When he broke into their house, the large dragon approached Hiccup, who was just a baby at the time. When Cloudjumper rocked the cradle, he accidentally scratched Hiccup, resulting in the small scar on his chin. This encounter, along with watching his mother being taken away, could have led to Hiccup's childhood fear of dragons. Twenty years later, Cloudjumper appears to not recognize Hiccup but becomes close to him. Like Stoick, Hiccup does not hold a grudge against him for taking his mother.

Cloudjumper deeply respects the Bewilderbeast and bows to the king. Valka comments that Cloudjumper "must have thought I belonged here.", which could indicate that the Stormcutter must have known his former Alpha for a very long time.

Firepower: Cloudjumper can fire a sustained, tornado-shaped torus of fire, powerful enough to set a house on fire in seconds.
Communication skills: With Valka as his rider, Cloudjumper can understand human commands and perceive human emotions. With Valka, he can even sense what she wants him to do and when, without needing to physically communicate. He simply does. Furthermore, like Toothless, he is a loyal and understanding dragon.
Strength: Cloudjumper is strong enough to carry humans on his back and in his talons with minimal effort. He can also use his talons to lift a large metal net and help the Dragon Riders escape from Grimmel's base.
Stamina and endurance: Cloudjumper has demonstrated extreme stamina, as he was able to fly back from Grimmel's base to New Berk despite being stung by a Deathgripper.

Cloudjumper is proud and dignified, so he isn't as playful as Toothless, but he is gentle enough to shoo away the baby dragons who tease him. He is also sensible enough to support Valka on many occasions without needing clear communication, due to their strong bond. Cloudjumper's pride, great size, and confidence lead him to believe he is the most powerful dragon on Valka's mountain, second only to Bewilderbeast, the true king. Although he is usually serious, he knows how to have fun, like throwing snowballs at Toothless. Cloudjumper may seem big and strong, but he is actually kind and gentle.

According to School of Dragons, Cloudjumper greatly enjoys berries, including strawberries, elderberries, and bearberry.

Cloudjumper is an adult Stormcutter with woody brown scales, a cream-colored belly, and iridescent blue highlights. Its face has two long, flattened spines branching out from its nose, much like an owl's. Cloudjumper also has two scars on the spines on its face.

During a dragon attack, Cloudjumper broke into Valka and Stoick's house. He went to the crib where Hiccup's baby lay. Valka immediately thought Cloudjumper intended to harm Hiccup and grabbed a sword to protect her son. She soon realized he never meant to hurt Hiccup, but was simply curious. Stoick, believing he wanted to harm Hiccup and Valka, attacked Cloudjumper. However, Cloudjumper set the house on fire, trying to hurt Stoick. Then, Cloudjumper "kidnapped" her and took her to the home of the Wild Beast.

For the next 20 years, Cloudjumper allowed Valka to ride him. Together, they helped save thousands of dragons from Drago's hunters, including Eret, son of Eret, and led them to safety in the Wild Beast's nest.

Getting to Know Hiccup and Toothless

After the attack and the rescue of Eret and his men, Cloudjumper and Valka encountered a Night Fury ridden by a child. Cloudjumper managed to overtake them and cause an accident with the help of some dragons from the nest. They then led them to the Wild Beast's nest. Together, Cloudjumper and Valka revealed some secrets about the dragons in the nest to Hiccup.

When Drago Bludvist began his attack on the nest, Cloudjumper and Valka gathered the Bewilderbeast and the other dragons from the nest and fought against Drago Bludvist's forces with the help of their family and new friends. However, Drago summoned his own Bewilderbeast, which killed Valka's. Cloudjumper and all the other dragons, except for Scuttleclaw's hatchlings, fell under Drago's control.

Cloudjumper, with his owl-like appearance, has been Valka's preferred companion for flying and rescuing other dragons for the past twenty years. His pride, confidence, and great size lead him to consider himself the dominant dragon in Valka's fortress on the Mountain, second only to Bewilderbeast, the king of all the dragons in the nest.
Thanks to their two decades of experience together, Cloudjumper and Valka share an unspoken understanding while flying. While other dragon riders need to give commands to turn or fire, Cloudjumper instinctively knows when Valka wants him to move or attack, enhancing their combined mystique and skill in battle.
Like all Stormcutters, Cloudjumper possesses a second pair of hidden wings. When all four wings are deployed in an X formation, no dragon in the sky is more maneuverable and precise than Cloudjumper.
Though fearsome at first glance, Cloudjumper's foreclaws can be surprisingly agile and delicate when the occasion calls for skill rather than ferocity. These sharp, hook-like pincers at the tips of Cloudjumper's wings are dexterous enough to carefully open the lock on a dragon trap, or strong enough to smash one of Drago's war machines to pieces!
