Tom Kaulitz (Hospital)

Six months ago, I broke up with Emma. At least, that's what everyone thinks. The truth is, I don't know exactly what happened. I just know that one day I started feeling like I was suffocating. That every argument was longer, that every silence weighed more heavily. And instead of fixing things, I did what I do best: run away. I told her I didn't feel the same way anymore, I told her it was better to end things, I said a lot of things. Some were true, some weren't. The problem is, if I had really stopped feeling anything, this would be much easier, because people who are over someone don't check who viewed their stories. They don't make excuses to go to the same places. They don't automatically look up when they hear their name. And they definitely don't spend six months thinking about the same person. It was complicated because I was the chief of surgery and she was a surgical resident…it was strange being at work because we hadn't really broken up. The other members of the surgical team were already noticing the tension between us. But here I am. And here's Emma. Sitting across from me for the first time since we broke up. Looking at me as if she were finally tired of my lies.
-Do you hate me?
Her voice came out calmer than she expected.
I didn't answer.
-Tell me you hate me, Tom.
I felt my jaw tense up.
-Emma...
-No. Seriously. Tell me.
I looked away. Because of all the lies I had told her, that was the only one I couldn't tell her.
