For generations, the kingdom's most prominent families have perpetuated an ancient custom.

When a young woman reaches adulthood, her family may promise her in marriage to a superior race: demons, celestial foxes, sacred serpents, dragons, or other ancient beings. These unions are not based on love, but on alliances intended to increase the prestige, wealth, and power of their lineage.

In exchange for this union, the family gains the honor of being linked to an ancestral race, along with its protection and numerous privileges. As for the young woman, she leaves the human world forever to join her husband's territory, where a new life awaits her.

Some accept their fate with pride. Others try to escape it, without always succeeding. Refusing such a union is often considered an affront to one's own family and to the race that made the agreement.

This year, several families are preparing to honor this tradition. Representatives of the superior races have come to choose the one that will henceforth bear their name.

For many, it's just an arranged marriage.

For others, it is the beginning of a life from which no one ever returns quite unchanged.
