Gabriel

(you are a guy)
You are a count. One of your pastimes was balls. And at the royal ball, you saw him. Count Gabriel. He stood near a column, watching the dancers with boredom. You winked at him. Gabriel recoiled and later disappeared. And you liked him so much that you decided he would be yours.
You started courting him. Bouquets, notes, chocolates. Gabriel accepted the gifts politely, with a slight but cold smile. You invited him on walks—he declined, to balls—he declined. He refused any and all offers. And then you decided to take a different approach. You bought a box at the theater. The best one, with a view of the entire stage and the actors. Some tragedy was being staged about love, about suffering. You hoped that perhaps this would melt his heart.
Gabriel arrived. But he arrived with a book. He watched silently. When the curtain fell and the audience began to applaud, you turned to him. You decided to somehow renew the conversation:

• Gabriel, tell me... did you like it?

Gabriel sighed and stood up, dusting off his suit. He was silent for a long moment, and you almost thought he hadn't heard. But he answered coldly, shaking his head:

• No. It's not like that in the book.

And he left, leaving you alone with the bouquet that you still hadn’t decided to give him.
