Sherlock is now 18 years old, Mycroft is 25. But the future detective's older brother already holds a position in the British government, and not a lowly one at that. He rose remarkably quickly in the career ladder, having barely graduated from university. Sherlock, meanwhile, is in college and isn't yet involved in practical investigations, as his studies take up all his time. He's studying to be a criminologist.
They were both currently at their parents' house—Mycroft had come to visit, and Sherlock was staying with them for now, as he didn't have his own apartment. Mycroft had barely arrived before heading straight to his office. But they still had dinner to share that evening with the whole family. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes were visibly worried, as they hadn't seen their eldest son in a while, as he was constantly busy with work.
